Travel between Delhi and Lahore

Doing some research for my dad who is going to a conference in lahore next feb. he'll be in india beforehand on holiday, so wants to fly direct from delhi (or even kochin or bangalore) to lahore. so far i've only found one flight between delhi and lahore on indian airlines and it only runs once a week. i know there is a bus and train service but he doesn't have the time. does anyone know of any other airline that flies between the two cities? also is the jammu kashmir -sialkot road open to foreign citizens? i'm guessing no...

The Jammu Sialkot road has remained closed to all - Indians and foreign nationals since 1947.

Pakistan International Airlines flies Delhi - Lahore on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays.

PIA 271 - Dep DEL 1740 Arr LHE 1820

For some reason, this flight does not show up on the PIA website but is there on the Lahore Airport website. Check with your travel agent.

What about Amritsar to Lahore? a friend told me there used to be a train that ran between the two. Does this still run? If so how does the "customs" work? KK

If your father has a British passport , he can fly from Delhi to Amritsar. Take a taxi to the Wagah border and simply walk through customs into Pakistan! Amritsar and Lahore are twin cities, and he will easily get local tranport on the other side.

From Amritsar you can go very easily to Wagah border, I think is around 40 km only, and from there to Lahore also by bus or shared taxis/jeeps.

hello,
i am in lahore. Manoj, Sanjey and everyone on the forum is correct. Fly PIA from Delhi, it is a 40-minute flight to Lahore. Or Fly Delhi-Amritsar----------and cross Atari/Wahgah border by foot. Amritsar to border is hardly 25 minutes.Wahgah, part of Lahore, is another 20 odd minutes from City centre or 45 minutes in rush hours. Any problems, let me know. I will try to sort out.

hello,
A second thought. Trains, I heard, take a long time due to Customs checking and passenger delays. Best options that I always use are listed above.

Yes Rachel,
Thats what I have done on most occasions. Ticket (2-way) is slightly over 200 US dollars. Go to PIA office in Kailash Building----Kasturba Marg (if I remember and spell it correctly) Connought Place, New Delhi. Locals please correct me with the road's name. I think it is named after Gandhi Jee's wife.
At Lahore Airport, which falls in Lahore Cantonment, please bargain with cab driver--starting with 100 per cent reduction inoffered price. If conference people are not picking your dad up, I don't live very far from Airport. In fact I see planes landing and taking off daily. Let me know a day or 2 in advance. I will pick him up and drop at his hotel.
PIA lands in the evening, I think.
