ThailandMike?

I'm going to thailand in a little month and keep searching for something similar to IndiaMike to aid me in preparations... But no luck so far, therefor i turn to you guys. Any good ideas? It will of course not be as good as IndiaMike but...

There is one. Mentioned in a recent thread. A lot of ex-pat stuff, apparently; pretty robust --- not as friendly as our own dear IM

Now, if only those brain cells would live longer...

Because it is "offtopic"

That doesn't show on the front page: the reasoning is to keep the site looking good by keeping stuff that has little or nothing to do with Indian travel off it.

Maybe I'll move this to "Crossing the Border" for you

----I did. You should see it on the front page now.

LOL the "pink fluffy handcuffs" remind me of a certain book, don't tell me you read the same. But I get the picture yes.

Let us know if we can be of help, even if, after all, it isn't a Thailand board.

Sounds like my kind of trip, go for it. New year's on some picture postcard island & calling the folks back home with -18C had something gratifying about it

This was pretty out-of-the-way (tip: pick an island that has the least info about it in your guidebook) but there was a traveller crowd & besides we mostly became the best of friends with our guesthouse owners and their friends so really quite pleasant. I guess we had a rocket or two and a splendid dinner & I managed to step into a campfire barefooted, that was about it

One thing, you may find things boringly organized there after India. Try to hit the countryside a little to get a different take on things. A random busride here or there (the non-airco local type, and bring a sweater for the former cos they're freezing) can put you right into that jovial kind of crowd. Along those same lines, you'll find yourself much less the center of attention, to the point of being politely ignored even. They just don't care that much about you & it is after all much more touristed. Might take some getting used to after your recent experiences.

Anyway, enjoy! It's marvelous out there. I stumbled into some westerner there actually on my way to the plane out and he told us how he had never been away from his home country before & had just got on a train into the Thai countryside and got out at any random spot he liked. Sounded like he had just had the month of his life, the sparkling eyes and all He'd barely met any other westerners for the whole trip too I think.

For detailed information, http://www.thaivisa.com/ is fantastic and easily the best I've come across.

It also has a VERY active forum at http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/

However, if you ask a simple question like "how hot is Bangkok in February" or anything else that indicates you haven’t read the guidebook, you will be knocked to the ground and the members will take turns to kick you, be warned.

Lonely Planet's thorn tree has a Thailand branch (here) where they've mastered the art of good cop/bad cop, the info can sometimes be very good, but you have to wade through a lot of crap to find it, and the bored expats can be nasty just for the fun of it.

'Tales Of Asia' has a Thailand forum (Here), the info is OK, but member tezza has a host of threads titled 'Some Info on.....' that are very good.

For Thailand links, the following thread is maybe the best thread I've ever seen on the Internet.

Thailand, the master index.

http://thailand.sawadee.com/index.html is good for learning about places.

Their hotel section (here) is awesome and very detailed, but I've never used it to book and I don't know their commission. (click top left of that page for hotels in different cities)

But despite all the above, tell us what info you're looking for, there are a few members here who've been to Thailand, including myself, I spent far too much time there and can maybe answer some of your questions. (it's my next destination too)

Thank's 4 that g8 Thaivisa link Steve.
It seem's to have heaps of info.
Never been to Thailand as it's the #1 traveler destination. A real turnoff 4 me. But it's my favorite food and am thinking of passing through on my next visit to India. Though I abhor major touristic places, I should at least visit once. Maybe I'll become addicted.
