Indeed, Dubai is a haven for expatriates from various countries, with the majority being from India, Pakistan and The Philippines. People from a variety of other nationalities also come here seeking work and with the hope of saving. Some achieve it as per their plans, others work harder to achieve it. In the end, this city does make dreams come true for most people

It may come as a surprise that out of the entire UAE population, only less than 20% account for original UAE nationals, the rest are expatriates. And out of all the expatriates from India, the thumping majority are from the coastal state of Kerala!

MJ is in Bahrain, a kingdom situated quite far away from the UAE. We do not have a common border, but Bahrain is considered a close friend of the United Arab Emirates.

It amazes me how many people consider over half a dozen countries in the "middle east" to be all linked together in some way, and assume that its all ONE..though the truth is that the only thing REALLY common is the official language, Arabic.

Its happened a lot of times before, specially over the internet, and specially with people from the Americas(no intention to offend, just sayin the facts out ). The moment they hear/read Middle East or Dubai, they scream out "Isn't that near Iraq?? "

The truth is, it isn't, and this link might help in confirming that

Cheers

Funny, Bahrain is near Iraq. 220 miles?

It's also only 50 miles removed from a patch of sand that says UAE.

Its all good skell, the idea is to convey to more people about the truth of this region, thats all. My post dealt with a general observation I've made over the years

Merchant, you are perhaps right about the distance between Bahrain and Iraq, however, I was as such talking about Dubai and Iraq and they being linked and people assuming that "war/violence in Iraq automatically puts Dubai in the danger zone as well" . That was the clarification I intended to make Morever, Bahrain and all of the other gulf countries have their own independent governments and in no way are the gulf countries "linked" as such

Of course--proximity and politics are two different things.
