Sri Lanka - transport within

I need to get from Colombo to Galle in January. Does anyone have advice on transport options and safety?

Get a train from Fort Station to Galle, or altn. take a bus from the nearby bus stand. It's pretty safe no probs

Galle is on the way to Matara

look for trains here from Fort(=Colombo)

Better than that are private Intercity buses. They leave about half a km from Fort station, on the same side of the road, a little inside.

A bit more problematic is it how you get from the Airport to Colombo. There is a bus outside the airport that runs to Fort. It is not a special airport bus, but a numbered bus. It is 187 and 240.

Taxis are rather expensive. I think the 20 dollars indicated on this site is inaccurate, as of 2005.
