Royal Nepal Air: A ROYAL pain
Okay, this belongs in the Crossing the Border section, but:
If you possibly can, avoid travelling via Royal Nepal Airlines (aka Royally Appalling Airlines). There are several private lines now (Buddha Air, Cosmic, Yeti) that go many of the same places and are more reliable, even if they cost just a bit more. RNAC is notorious for cancellations and lateness. I heard nothing but complaints during my 5 months here in Kathmandu.

I have flown Buddha Air but that was only for the mountain flight to see Mount Everest!!!

I flew Buddha air from KTM to Pokhara and it was fine, but it's a bumpy flight so you might white-knuckle it.

Nepal Airlines no longer Royal
The old Royal Nepal dropped the "Royal" a while back for understandable reasons.
Have had a few flights on several Nepali airlines, several of which operate near new turboprops. Had good luck (no problems) with my flights on old Royal Nepal(once) and more recently, Nepal Airlines. |

I used to handle the Royal Nepal Airlines Boeing 757 aircraft when they operated from Mumbai to Kathmandu and it was a fairly new aircraft so not many problems as far as maintenance was concerned. Don't know if the other aircraft are as good or well maintained as this one. Now they have stopped operating from Mumbai so have no recent experience of their aircraft.
