Entry requirements for UK nationals: British citizens require a passport valid for at least two months beyond the expiry date of the visa, which is issued on arrival allowing for a touristic stay of up to 30 days. A return ticket or proof of onward travel is also required. (http://www.wordtravels.com/Travelgui...Sri+Lanka/Visa) 1.00 INR = 2.74440 LKR (www.xe.com) There. That took me 45 seconds from scratch. |

Don't worry too much! Many questions get asked many times here... and answered. But some stuff on the site is more common than other.
I'm sure somebody will be able to help you out with accomodation information. I'm thinking it make help to change the title of your thread a little... |

dear mezmo,
place a separate question regarding accommodation in colombo and you might get a better response. I don't know the answer. |

I've moved the thread [back?] to the Crossing the border forum, as the emphasis seems to be on the accommodation and living costs, rather than the visa aspects.

Uh, Care to share? I'll be there soon as I have to renew my visa, and would love to know what you've come up with as far as accomodations, etc.

Hello mezmo, hope you dont have any delaysgetting your visa in Kandy or Colombo. Do be prepared for some however, as the Embassies there seem to be not ot fond of putting some of the holidays they are having onto the website and I've found many a time, that instead of the 5 working day processing of a visa, that you could be there and waiting for up to three weeks. Do take all the correct documentation with you - take originals and get the copies they need - but DO take originals, as you might be asked to produce them because you're not going back to your country of origin for this visa.. You will also have to answer why you are not returning to your country of origin for this new visa (please don't call them renewals, as there is no such thing) and although thank God it has never happened to me, two guys from the US and one from Britain were refused visa's and told to go back to their COI's. Yes Sri Lanka is expensive in comparison to India. The visa is cheaper than getting it in London though. You can find cheap accommodation if you look on the Internet - Ocean view is quite a ways out of the reach of either Kandy or Colombo - with quite a little bus ride (about 2 hours from Colombo and 3 and a half from Kandy. There are loads of Hostels around too.
Be aware of the Tuk-Tuk's there, they charge exorbitant prices - and the buses are so frequent that it's better to take them and save yer money for a beer or something ![]() |
