Hi Fellow Travellers,

I Am New Here On Indiamike, So Please Pardon It, If This Has Already Been Asked Before...

I Am Planning Trip To Bhutan..
From What I Read On Wikitravel (http://wikitravel.org/en/Bhutan#By_bus),
Indian Citizens Do Not Require Any Visa..

Easiest Way To Reach Is By Bus From Siliguri..

My Question Is,
Is There Some Kind Of Permit/Passing Required From Siliguri,
Or Can I Just Board The Bus,
If There Is Some Permit/Passing Required, How Long Does It Takes To Obtain It...

Thanks

Hi friend,

Reach the border town of Jaigaon (in West Bengal, India). Take a hotel. Make arrangements for the permit. It requires 2 photos (not sure about the recent requirement) and a copy of any photo Identity proof (Voter card, Pan card, Driving licence). This permit is issued during the office hours and you may have to stay a day at Jaigaon to obtain it.

Then you can move to Phutsheling (in Bhutan) and further move to your desired destination.

Hope other members who recently travelled can put light on this matter.

regards
Bisa

As Bisa said, the permits are issued at Phuntsoling.
First go the Indian Consulate (Mon-Fri, mornings) in Jaigarh (the Indian border town), and get your ID paper attested.
After that, walk across to the Immigration Office of Govt of Bhutan in Phuntsoling and apply for your permit. You have to fill up a form (form available online), attach the attested ID. They take a digital photograph and issue you the permit within 1-2 hours. This also has to be applied for in the morning. This is the reason why it is better to arrive at Jaigarh/Phuntsoling (5 minutes of each other) the previous night so that you can do this job first thing in the morning. If you are carrying your Indian passport, you can directly go to the Immigration Office (without need for attestation at Indian Consulate), saving you 30-60 minutes.
