Re: Delhi to Kathmandu
Hi
Guys I was just wondering if you any of you knew of a direct bus from Delhi to Kathmandu? Looking for a private bus, like deluxe/luxury?? Currently in Delhi on a student visa, which is out on the 2nd July, so planning on heading to Kathmandu from Delhi by around the 30th June. Regarding visas, is it easy enough to just obtain one from the border checkpoint, for around US$30 for 14 days?? I remember the last time l was there l obatined one from the airport but this time l can't afford to fly in! Or am l better off just obtaining one from the Nepali Embassy here in Delhi, l've heard they issue 60 day visas, is that right?? I was thinking of staying on longer in Nepal simply because l hear the accomodation costs are cheaper, is that right? Also, what are peoples experience of obtaining Indian tourist visas from the embassy in kathmandu?? Sorry to bombard you with all these questions!! Hope you can help, cheers jaz |

no deluxe
The Delhi-KTM "direct, deluxe" bus is a deluxe nightmare. Haven't taken it myself, but from all reports, it is deluxe in price only. There is no such thing, going to Nepal, as the nice Indian "Volvo" or push-back seat bus. The only special feature is that it doesn't make lots of stops. And, the price, of course. ;-)
I highly, highly recommend getting the $99 or $125 flight from Delhi to KTM instead, especially now as every single week, there are different news reports on strikes and curfews in the border areas. THere are loads of helpful threads here on "doing" your Indian visa in KTM. Enjoy!

Hi
Thanks for the reply. I've looked into flights and can't see anything less than US$150 + taxes, maybe l'm looking in the wrong places?! The most l can spend is Rs4,000 (which includes taxes), not sure what that is in dollars? I have heard that you can get a bus from Delhi to Banbassa (takes about 10 hours?) and from there an auto to Mahendrenager (Nepal), its then 24 hours! by bus to KTM? Has anyone tried this route? I couldn't do the 24 hours direct, is there some place on the way someone could recommend any kind of stop off? Or any alternative (cheap!) way of getting to KTM from Delhi in one piece? Cheers |
