I am actually in the UK currently on a short project.

Btw, Sachin Tendulkar has also dropped out of the torch-bearer list.

Good for him. I cannot imagine him doing this anyway.

Yes, but in his case it's medical reasons - he's been advised not to run becos of a groin strain.

Maybe, that's just an excuse the great sportman of this country citing,just to avoid controversy,and also not to involve his name in this "bloody" campaign
Anyway,it's a very welcome gesture from such a great personaily as him; Was expecting something of that sort from at least LEANDER PAES as well;

I agree. I think that is just a convenient excuse. He has managed to avoid overt controversy like he has done all along.

Olympic games are for humanity. China should be banned from uphelding the games. Forcibly occupying such a peaceful region as Tibet, clinically desroying its culture, building army estabishments in the TAR in the name of development, and destroying the ecosystem of this land of serenity - is more than enough reason to debar China from projecting its false human side.

Although I am an Indian, I am sorry for the Indian political powerhouses who don't have a common agenda on Tibet. While the Chinese spread red carpet to get the support of Sonia Gandhi, the opposition is more involved in book reliese functions or price rise, or god knows what else. I think India's china policy is at its lowest.

The government of that time was stong enough to give a home to Dalai Lama and the Tibetabn refugees. I guess if the current government was in power at that time, it might have packed them in mule carts and send them back to the Chinese military with machine guns. Plus it would have given a 'Lal salaam' and a seepish grin so that their mutual relationship is not in geopardy.

Why the Indian government is forgetting that it is Chaina which is most vocal aginst giving India a parmanent place in the UN security Council?

The Indian Government is bowing again to pressure from the pro Chinese left. Protests in West Bengal and Arunachal (I think) have been banned.

Spineless.

Driving in South -Central Delhi's going to be a pain today. Indian gate area has been sealed off from 1 - 5 PM. Had meetings in CP which had to be canceled thanks to this.

I think the entire idea of closing off such a central area of Delhi is absurd, Olympics or not, i wish they would be more streamlined in processes than simply saying "block it"

we're not planning to venture far today either. The area around India Gate/ CP is going to be chaos traffic wise. Also the restricted area around the chinese embassy looks like it might be expanded today as well (there are now road blocks up to the ring road/ sadar patel) - not to mention shanti path.

Nice day to sit inside reading IM.
