Thanks, Capt. for the info.

A former defence minister, and, it seems, a man of few, but pertinent words.

I would not expect anything from India's politicians. They are interested in their own power, fortunes and vanity. Principles went off the menu long ago.

Respect is due for standing up to Indira Gandhi, though.

I'll even grant that to our TN Chief Minister.

'Gorgeous' George is the leading British apologist for fascism and dictatorships around the world. The guy would be an obscure politician, but he found that sucking up to the likes of Saddam and Castro got him more attention than he could ever have dreamed of back home.

Here are some choice Galloway quotes:

Galloway in his own words

He's unfortunately not alone on the far-left in betraying Tibet - the mayor of London Ken Livingstone is a leading apologist for the Chinese, while the silence from the likes of John Pilger and Noam Chomsky on Tibet is deafening......

But cleared after a subsequent investigation, no?

Fernandes blathers less than any other politician I've ever seen.

I'm drifting OT ...

yes, though at least I have many questions about his and Jaya Jaitley's role in that affair.

Ah, so if you're not guilty by association, you're guilty by lack thereof, eh. I see...

Actually Chomsky has not been silent but is a vociferous pre-Beijing supporter as far as Tibet goes..

Well considering how much these guys have to say about certain other issues, you don't find their relative silence concerning Tibet a bit strange?

Not really or necessarily, if you're tackling half the world's issues & have chosen your own spearpoints in doing so. We can't speak up about everything, it's that simple. Has Chomsky spoken on Darfur, Aceh, the state of the North Pole? (He may well have, I simply wouldn't know.)

That's interesting (and would be a great disappointment) if it's true. Do you have any links to articles of his to support this? It's an honest question, I'd like to see them.

I've so far not noticed Chomsky being anyone's fellow traveler (to use yesteryear's phraseology), but I can't say I follow his every word either, far from it in fact. I thought he was quite critical of his Marxist colleagues rather, which you'd think wouldn't bode well for his views on Maoism or modern-day Chinese communism. I'd be very surprised if he were supportive of the Chinese regime, albeit less so if he had pointed out some hypocricies in the arguments of its critics perhaps.

I found this re Chomsky on Tibet, and vaguely remember him having said stuuf in the similar vein :

"Take the recent US-backed Israeli violence in the occupied territories and Chinese violence inTibet. The former is far greater, and the justifications far weaker. Just imagine how the US and Israel would react if Palestinians in illegally annexed East Jerusalem were to burn down a bank and Jewish stores, attack Jews, etc., as in Tibet We can then compare the actual reactions. In the case of US-backed Israeli violence and illegal actions in the OT, overwhelming support for embattled Israel. In the case of Chinese violence in Tibet, much grandstanding, as when Nancy Pelosi -- an enthusiastic supporter of Israeli violence -- declares passionately that if we don't stand up for Tibet we will lose our "moral authority" (she didn't explain on what that authority rests).

One can proceed -- that is, if one is interested in truth and justice and immune to shrieks of horror and a deluge of brickbats."

But Chomsky's main plank is anti-imperialism..anti-hegemonism etc. Surely there is something about that in China's policies with Tibet.
