Read reports of protest spreading to other provinces. I am guessing the Uighur separatists in Sinkiang province would be eager to grab some attention.

I am afraid that the ultra paranoid PRC leadership will crack down even more to "save face".

Oh, for a good boycott! That'll teach the buggers that u can't have things your way for ever and ever.

Methinks if they kill a few thousand protesters, that shud be enough for some countries to pull out?

(Not us - if we pull out, they might attack us instead.
No wait, they'll attack Goa! After all, we now know Goa is to blame for everything. )

Munivar: what does your signature line mean? Just curious.

Hmm, hope it doesn't end like the one outside the Chinese embassy in New Delhi a few days ago.

Starting lines of a Tamil poem from the Sanga era (>2000 years ago) by Kaniyan Poongunran.

It means(roughly)- Every town is my hometown. Everyone is my kin.

NDTV News is showing escalating protests and violence in many areas. Also there is a warning for tourists not to go to Tibet - I think a ban on visas for Tibet at present but didn't fully catch that. Many tourists are now leaving Tibet.

It seems that the DL is getting more outspoken, now asking for international inquiry into what is happening there.

Yeah, he must be feeling the heat from the young uns. I'm sure he's receiving rumblings and rumours from within the community (here I mean) that they are getting ready to rumble. I wudn't be surprised if a few haven't sneaked into Tibet already.
The TYC have had a stance for years now that when, umm, this DL moves on, they won't be flying the flag of peace any longer.

And psst! don't tell anybody - our govt. is training some of them.

More on this story....

Chinese troops parade handcuffed Tibetan prisoners in trucks

The Chinese Army drove through the streets of Lhasa today parading dozens of Tibetan prisoners in handcuffs, their heads bowed, as troops stepped up their hunt for the rioters in house-to-house searches.

As the midnight deadline approached for rioters to surrender, four trucks in convoy made a slow progress along main roads, with about 40 people, mostly young Tibetan men and women, standing with their wrists handcuffed behind their backs, witnesses said.

A soldier stood behind each prisoner, hands on the back of their necks to ensure their heads were bowed.

What is the UN but a group of some of the most corrupt and sorry excuses for countries around? Its only a first or second effort at a very long struggle for this planet. UN peacekeepers are at best impotent and at worst great participants in the sex trade. I doubt they are ready to take on 3rd rate insurgents much less the Chinese army. Remember who provided the muscle behind the UN effort in Korea and I really don't see people going that way again.
Couldn't agree more with this post.....

I dunno if you are joking or not...but please don't feed Chinese paranoia with these ideas.

There are Tibetans serving in our armed forces (Indo-Tibetan Border Police). Many Tibetans were part of the Special Frontier Force that we used to invade Bangladesh in the liberation war of 71.

http://www.rediff.com/news/2003/jan/08spec.htm

It is hard to not feel for a community that has adopted us so much that they are willing to fight and die for a war not of their own to liberate a country not of their own.

It was the US which planned to use Tibetans in India to raise a militia...they were very "China = Commie = EVIL!!!" those days. It would never have worked and would have turned into another Bay of Pigs type fiasco. India wisely refused to facilitate such things.
