Pokhara Nepal's Best Kept Secret - until now
Hello IndiaMikers,
After two months in Nepal I was lucky enough to stumble on a guesthome on the other side of the lake - across from Pokhara. Actually not a guest house but a home with a few rooms for travellers. I was wanting to get away from the noise and all the action and looked across the lake wondering what was on the other side. I found a little paradise there. You can only get there by boat but what a relief it was once there. Quiet and peaceful and real village life is what I found and in my 2 years of travel through India and Nepal, this is the spot I will return to. I was so impressed with the place and the owners that I offered to build a website for them: http://www.drool.com/anadu ... check it out and go! |

*sigh* I just came back from Nepal 10 days ago and am feeling serious withdrawal... I was in Pokhara but missed this place you are talking about, spent most of our time Lakeside wondering 'what all the fuss is about' - will be sure to go there next year. Now Nagarkot, that's my new Paradise, even without the view of the Langtang range(obscured by clouds) - I've never seen so many butterflies in my life. My (now) husband and I went there to celebrate our engagement, will remember it our whole life and go back again and again...
I'm in New York now, craving chili yak cheese momos, Bhaktapur dahi and my Maya... ![]()

I was there too (in June) and really enjoyed Pokhara and Nagarkot too besides a lot of other places we visited like Panauti, Bhaktapur, Namo Buddha, Patan, Kathmandu, Dhulikhel, Chitwan National Park and Lumbini, besides going for the Mountain Flight to see Mount Everest from Kathmandu!!! We also went to Tibet by road from Kathmandu and returned by flight from Lhasa to Kathmandu. The view of the mountain ranges from Pokhara and Nagarkot besides the view from the flight from Lhasa to Kathmandu are really fabulous and not worth missing if you can go there.
Cheers, Aadil.

Seems fantastic - thank you for sharing Kengonetoindia. I'm planning to spend two weeks in Nepal in November-December.

I first went in 1975.
The only hotel at Lakeside was the Fishtail Lodge, there were only farms where there are now scores of lodges. We stayed on a farm sleeping on charpoys in the shed, sharing the family's toilet facilities (a hole in the ground ) and bath (a bucket suspended as a shower) We shared their meals - fruit and bread for breakfast and dhal bhat tarkari for dinner (it's amazing how much rice a dainty Nepalese woman can put away after a hard day in the fields!!) This cost Nep Rs 4 per day each. I'd do it again except Lakeside is now solidly covered in concrete buildings... |
