Pokhara - monsoon - how long?

Hi there

i want to go to Pokhara sometime in August 08. Is it badly affected by monsoon?

Im planning on going there to get some relaxation in after an everest base camp trek, so wanted to whether relaxation will be possible, considering the monsoon.

Also, how long would you recommend to spend there in total, so that I can see the major sites, and get some relaxing in?

Thanks
Neeraj

Yes it is. Pokhara is lower than KTM and hence is considerably greener and gets a lot more precipitation. During the monsoons, it is not uncommon to rain 6-7 hours in a day. Regardless though it is a great town even during the monsoons.

I don't know why you are doing the EBC in summer. Its monsoons. You should wait until post monsoon (i.e. Sept onwards).

If the monsoons get too much for you in Pokhara, head to Jomsom and you can trek to the holy shrine of Muktinath. The apples/apricots at Marpha are some of the finest/sweetest in the world.

I am planning on doing EBC in summer because it is the only time I have holiday available! Ive resigned myself to getting wet on the trek, but was hoping to find a spot to relax after, where it would be nice and sunny and dry!

Thanks for the info though

well Jomsom/Muktinath or Mustang/Dolpo (not a cheap endevaor)
alternatively head to Indian Himalaya (Lahaul/Spiti/ and/or Ladakh)
all in the so-called 'rain shadow'. but with changing weather patterns some places are getting more rain now.
