What is the 'Right' procedure for an Indian Citizen to get a work visa for EU?
I have a client who is attemting to do this now. Does anyone have specific current information? i.e how long does it take? Is it like the US H1B and almost impossible to get after April 1? Are there special programs for engineers or specialized skill sets? |

I don't suppose it will be the same for any of the EU countries.
By way of an example, check the Dutch stipulations (the country I know best -- although I've never had to immigrate here and so am hardly an expert) at: http://www.minbzk.nl/bzk2006uk/ http://english.justitie.nl/ http://www.ind.nl/EN/ You could look up the same for any country involved I guess. I'm not sure what you mean by your date of April 1, but this does seem to refer to the Dutch situation, interestingly enough. There has been a long-fought over amnesty for long-standing asylum seekers who meet very specific standards, leading to much confusion and false rumors in the (international) press and informal circuit. Any rumors that it will be extended or repeated are false. See http://www.ind.nl/en/inbedrijf/actue...onregeling.asp . Some other countries (notably Spain) have had similar arrangements, leading again to false rumors among prospective refugees, causing them (substantial) lost money and much frustration at best. Please do check with the official channels, which shouldn't be hard to find. And note that to my knowledge none if this does nor ever has applied to others than refugees or asylum seekers anyway. For the latter category, such arrangements where existent at all reflect on people who have been here for ages and have somehow been lost among existing arrangements, and it covers far from all of them nor automatically so. Again, any rumors that one can come to the EU and hope for an amnesty or special treatment of any sort should be discarded for want of any official statements to that effect, and no one should hold their hopes up for the latter, which given the current overall political situation are less likely to happen than ever, and that for the remotely foreseeable future. I'm not happy with it, but it's the way it is. And once more, none of this should and probably won't affect regular seekers of employment, which are an entirely different category. If it's just the tax year you're thinking of with that date, I don't see how it would figure into it no. A decent website for (prospective) expats to several EU countries is http://www.expatica.com/. Kindly note again stipulations will vary per country. Try also http://europa.eu/

Joe Recruiter : Machadinha's right as usual, every country has its own procedure. Here in France procedures are different from both Spain and the Netherlands.
Visa processing time is usually several months here. As far as I know, there are no specific visa programs for special skills. Those special skills will help getting the visa. But they don't guarantee it. Most EU countries have excellent engineers. Companies need to prove that they can't get those skills locally. Also, getting a work visa doesn't mean you'll get a work permit. It will take time and paperwork once the person is in France to get the final papers. I should add that France is making it harder every day to get work permits, notably but not only from citizens of developing countries. The official policy is to encourage "chosen immigration", i.e. immigration of the elites, into which specialized engineers do fit. The reality is that immigration is strongly discouraged, period. Good luck then ! ![]() |
