Dacota, this incident is just what it is - an incident. i wouldn't pluralise it into "troubleS". but of course our definition of "dangerous" varies from person to person. so yes, i am still going, but in september, many many weeks away
![]() my itinerary is somewhere on this thread, a few posts back. btw i have stocked up on old books on Pakistan, and i mean OLD ie the earliest is 1955-published account of Pakistan 1953-travel by Ian Stephenson, a former editor of The Statesman in Calcutta who quit HM Service in 1950s and took six months off to travel to Pakistan... who crossed the LOK into Indian Kashmir also, on a special permission of Indian Government. Facsinating!! (small small print: i find he is more sympathetic to Pakistan than to India). the book is called "Horned Moon" the other books are even older, all about the same region, the oldest is 1897... with a map of undivided Kashmir and adjuscent "unexplored" territories. It is called "Where three empires meet", the three empires being Russia, China and Britain!! how times change ![]() and i am still waiting for my Pakistan Footprint guide which is somewhere in the seamail across the Atlantic

Volga_Volga,
I hope such incidents donīt occur often. I have FPīs Pakistan (1999 edition). I know the new one will only be out end of August/early Sept. So, Iīll travel with the "old" one. Across the Atlantic? I thought you live in GB. Happy & safe travels. |

Hi Volga_volga,
You can get 1999 edition directly from FP (costs 13.99 Ģ; the new one will be Ģ 12.99; if bought directly from FP) I am due to return on 26th Sept. I only have copies of certain pages (the places I want to visit) as I borrowed the book from a friend. But I could fax them to you. ? |

Volga_volga, just contact FP directly. Youīl get all the info, and all the guide books you want really quickly (after all they are based in GB).
Does anyone know if there is really still a curfew in Gilgit? The last I hear was it was lifted a while back. Yet Britainīs travel advisory site still cites it. ? |

The curfew was lifted on June 16th.
By the way, don't rely too heavily on government travel advisories. They're worth reading, but tend to err on the side of caution (e.g. "don't leave home or else you will die"). They also tend to dwell on incidents that occured in the distant past (e.g., "don't go to that place because there was an explosion in 1953"). You'll meet many Pakistanis who will rant for hours about the negative treatment their country has received from governmental travel advisories. It is pretty hard to reconcile the advisories with reality. |

Pakistan!!!!!
Greetings from the Other Side of the Moon
honest i don"t understand why travellers are reluctant to come here as, compared to In dia, travel in (Northerm Areas of) Pakistan is a piece of cake and the worst thing that can happen to me here is being put on a plane back home well internet access leaves much to be desired may be that"s whyPakistanis are sendin their best reards to Indians ![]() |

Fun! Crossing the borders Pakistan to India and back
Hi, fun, the only thing I have to say at the moment is that I am planning to cross-borders soon between India Pakistan and am real excited about it. Before the end of the year I should make it, so that's all I got to say at the moment!
