new route to mount kailash
Kashmiris demand new route to Kailash
Buddhists in Jammu and Kashmir began a march to New Delhi demanding a new pilgrimage route to Kailash Mansarovar via Ladakh. full story here.
"The State Government of Ghulam Nabi Azad is opening the border with Pakistan. It is such a good thing. But now that the government has said that China is our friend, they should also open the way to Kailash. It is our right.
Kailash is not only for the people of Leh district. Hindus want to go to Kailash and get the blessings of Lord Shiva.
We want that the route to Kailash be opened so that we can go there. In fact, trade with Tibet should be resumed," said Tashies, the president of the association.

new route to mount kailash
I read about it in the papers this morning, has anyone been to mansarovar before?when is the right time to go there,I believe it's on the other side of the mcmohan line,so does that mean a china visa is required, and is it possible to go there alone rather than in a group as is the norm.

kumaon mandal vikas nigam conducts tours to kailash from the indian side. on the otherside of the border, the tibet autonomous region administratorc conduct the pilgrimage. people go there in batches. the yatra goes on till october (i guess). rung mung site also might have some good info on the region: http://www.rungmung.net/Nauksum/inde...aps&Itemid=102
the kidang region represents the taklakot-kailash area in TAR.
check out the pictures section on their site. they have an album on kailash yatra: http://rungmung.net/Nauksum/photos/
u can also go to chota kailash (adi kailash or baba kailash). it is in india..in the kuthi valley. lies on the same route as that to mount kailash in tar.

At present one can go only through the route chosen by the two governments, and join the pilgrimage conducted
by the Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (Indian Territory) and Tourist Co. of Ali (in Tibet), from June to September, after one
has completed all formalities.
