I've also been thinking about Maldives. My tourist visa will allow me to be in India in 90-periods only - I've been thinking about Nepal, Bangladesh, ... but why not Maldives?

The Visit Maldives web site tells me "Free 30 days Visa upon arrival for all visitors"! At least AIR SAHARA and INDIAN AIRLINES appear to fly there from India, AIR SAHARA from Delhi which would be the most convenient option to me.

A holiday in Maldives after cramming Hindi in Uttarakhand, mmmm... The more I think about it, the better it feels...

There's a lot to be said for standing idly on the shore, or even taking a nap on the beach.

Will consider standing idly on the shore!

Air Sahara is now JetLite. According to Wikipedia, JetLite has domestic and international flights (also to Maldives) but on their website, I can find domestic flighs only. Also, according to Airwise, there are Air Sahara (which is now JetLite) flights between Delhi and Male - the information might not be up-to-date. It looks like Air Sahara/JetLite no longer has international flights, after the merger with Jet Airways; read somewhere on the web that JetLite is to focus on domestic flights.

Indian Airlines has flights from Bangalore and Thiruvananthapuram - but I'd be in Delhi.

SriLankan Airlines appears to have Delhi to Male flights via Colombo.

The Maldives Airports Company website has useful information for anybody planning to fly to the Maldives/Male, for example, flight schedule.

Might be possible to buy a package incl. all the flights and accommodation from Delhi; will find out.

I'm convinced that IndiaMike already has all the answers, I just have to use Search more!

Hey why dont you try Lakshdweep instead....

Its the same natural stuff....much cheaper....and less exploited...

Kadmat, Minicoy are wonderful...though for an independent traveler there are lots of hassle....

I have to travel "abroad", to leave India (my tourist visa allows me to be in India in 90-day periods only), and the Maldives and Nepal are next to / near India, and I can have visa on arrival. I'll have a look at Lakshadweep, though - thanks. Looks lovely.
