Hi, Here's my own crappy travelblog which might be some help.

Also check out the 'Pakistan Tips' link in my signature.

I met loads of solo females in Pakistan (mainly Japanese + Korean), they all loved the place......

Enjoy Syria

Thanks!
Have just gone and read your journal - brilliant!

The situation in Pakistan seems less stable at the moment, but I've got nearly a year befor needing to make any huge decisions, so we shall see.

Welcome to the "IndiaMike Overland Club" There are a few of us. And also some photos we've posted from those overland trips. Here is a link that will get you to three people's photos. They are mixed in with members more recent India photos. Great memories!

G'day hulk99,

Click on this picture of one of Emil Bryden's Purple Beasts in 1977, it's a link to the indiaoverland.biz site, where there are more pictures of that bus - and plenty more to read about the India Overland journeys.

Apparently the other driver you mention, Rufus (Roffey) is now a Member of Parliament for Guernsey - in the Channels Islands (UK). He's moved on in more ways than one.

Dave

some great images come from these overland travel stories. And it is still quite easy to get from India to europe keeping your tyres on the ground the whole way. Ironically when I tried to do it via Iran a few years ago, the Iranian embassy in Islamabad refused me a visa on account that I may be a terriorist!!! (travelling on an innocuous kiwi passport)... So had to change the plan and off to the Chinese embassy, so was able to do Karakorum into China, Trans Mongolian trian ended in Moscow, down to kiev, across to Prague (bus and train) then hitched to Spain from there and from spain re-traced my steps entirely by train and bus across central asia over the Torugat Pass back to China and down to Ho Chi Minh - so there are still some great land based connections between India/SE Asia and Europe, you don't have to worry about that airmile carbon footprint all the time!

What would be really great is if someone found themself!

I think the only way to see them is by clicking on this:

If anyone tries, let me know if it worked. I'm not really sure how to go about posting this album.

Yes, it works.Great photos. Alas!if I can do it now.

I've been going through a spell of working too hard, and neglecting the duty to have a good time. Having just reviewed this thread, and seen those photos by Camelgirl, has taken me back to those glorious days.

I could only afford black and white photography then, and treasure those mementoes. I hope you find the old airmail letters that are in the throes of house moving.

Best wishes

John
