Khyber Pass
cheers, Cyber, but as from last night, the whole ezboard website has been under attack and the content is currently wiped out of almost all forums
god knows when they restore (and what will be restored)well to answer the Khyber Pass question, yes, it is possible to visit, any tourist guide in Peshawar can arrange a car, and required visitor permit and armed guard at the Political Agent office in Peshawar. You can start asking at your hotel ![]() the trip takes 4 hours (there and back), you can stop for pictures any time you like depending on the class of hotel you stay you can pay (for everything) from Rs 800 to Rs 3000, with not much difference in the quality of service... Pak rupies, of courseany more questions, pls post here for the time being

Khyber Railway
cobra, one of the guys on Pak Travel Forum was going by train (pre-arranged trip by a tourist agency last December) but it was cancelled at last minute. I understand the train runs only by arrangement for tourists (mainly, train enthusiasts from GB) AND cost a fortune.
is it safe? I would think so. it is border area which means loaded with Pak Army guys and local tribal police force. the border at Khyber is the main gateway for imported goods from Afghanistan, and the road and the pass is loaded with huge trucks, usual commercial traffic. what is there to be scared of?? you will also have a personal guard with Kalashnikov, he will accompany you everywhere you go once you leave Peshawar in direction of the Khyber Pass. |
