Question Info about China / Beijing

Indiamike is one of the best forums/message boards I have found about traveling. Does anyone know a similar site about China?

In general I'm looking for China traveling info. I'm planning to go this year or maybe next year.

Thanks

I've got a Chinese railway timetable, it's about 2 years old now, but I doubt much has changed, it will at least give you an idea of journey times.

I don't think there is much useful train info available on the web, I had to buy my timetable from a man who produces the only English language 'full' timetable, I can give you his e-mail address if you need it.

I also have (it came with the timetable) an English/chinese reservation form that may be useful.

Where do you want to travel in China? (I have no idea about airline times/prices)

Not a direct answer to your question but I wanted to encourate you to do 2 things in China:

1) In Beijing, go to the Summer Palace, it is amazing, gives you a great sense of the excesses of Imperial China. I thought it was at least as impressive as the Forbidden City, if not moreso.

2) Go to Tibet! It is by far the most amazing place I've ever been. It's a pain to book travel there from outside China, but once you're in it's very easy. I got a flight from Chengdu & 4 days there for about $400 including accommodation & some tours. Absolutely breathtaking.

Have a wonderful trip!

Well, at first sight I chose Beijing/ Guilin/ Yangshuo/ Shanghai

But I just started to research about this country. Tibet is another option.

maybe we should start a Chinamike or divide this site into india/china mike.

Edit - add - aside note:

I also think that India-China (should there be an alliance) would be very powerful economicaly or otherwise. Well there is already "hints" of an impending alliance being created.

Qinghai-Tibet Railway's Maiden Journey
This dramatic railway lines will pass through Golmud, Yuzhu
Mountain, Tanggula Mountains and 800 kilometers "no-man's land".
The awesome snow capped mountain scenery, stunning beauty of the
magnificent plateaus, and majestic sightseeing, is going to be
unforgettable experience in your life. The traditional villages, grand monasteries, and the distinctive cultural treasures cannot
be found elsewhere, except in this pristine corner of China.

I agree! I went to Tibet in May and it was absolutely fantastic. Don't miss it!
I spent 3 months in China this spring because my boyfriend was teaching there, if you have any questions feel free to pm me!

I will also be travelling to Shenzhen and Beijing for the first time in Aug. I got a lot of relevant info on virtualtourist.com. They have a travelers forum too.
