Indian visa in Kathmandu

Our six months Indian visa is coming to an end. We are now in Himachal Pradesh. Can we get an Indian visa in Kathmandu for another six months? Is there any way to get to Kathmandu from the West, or is it necessary to go to Delhi and proceed from there?

Indian visa in KTM

Greetings from KTM; it's very easy (well, as easy as it gets!) to get a six-month Indian visa here in Kathmandu. The June 20 entry in my blog (below) goes into all the details. Weather is nice, breezy with occasional rain here; enjoy!

As far as reaching KTM by land from the west (Himachal), it takes 2 days on the train- to bus - to another bus by land from Uttaranchal, but it is do-able. I took the train to Haldwani (near Almora), bus to Banbassa, rickshaw cross the border, bus to Kohalpur where I spent the night and another bus at 7am from there to Kathmandu, arriving 9pm. Total cost including road food: about $35.00 or $40. The plane will take a couple hours and costs $135.

Yes, Sirensongs, it is good to see you back on IM. Your Blog, The India Diaries, is very informative - you are also funnier and better looking than Mark Tully, as you say.

Thanks Jung Mi; though I have been thinking of changing that USP. It's not really particularly hard to be either....
