hi!

Hi there,

I'm thinking of going to travelling but not sure yet. But I'm wondering if, as a local, you can help me out with something. I'm trying to find out what people do for nightlife in Dhaka - is there anything cool and interesting to do? It doesn't matter whether it's cheap or expensive, I've just like to find out what's going on.

Any tips appreciated!

Hi
If you do end up travelling to Dhaka let me know as I will be there from 25 Feb for about 4 months.

I would like to meet up with some fellow IMers while I'm there too.

Thanks

Thanks for your interest to visit Dhaka.

Actually, though Bangladesh is a moderate Islamic country but there are no NIGHT LIFE here like European countries or some Asian countries (Like Thailand). Night Clubs are not legal here, prostitution is illegal. But you can enjoy the nature at night through visiting Coxs bazar (the longest sea beach), The Sundarban (the largest mangrove forest), Bandarban (to see tribal community) & Kuakata (where you can see both Sun rise & set in the sea standing at same point).

Reg cost, here everything is cheap. Middle class hotel fare is : USD 4/night. You can take lunch or Dinner by only 50 Cents.

Other hand, February is the month of festival here. To save Bengali language couple of students dedicated their lives in 21 st Feb 1952. Since then February month observed here with joy & sorrows.

So, you all are welcome.

Come to Dhaka for some great folk festivals

There are some number of folk and cultural festivals happen in BD. Anyone can come and join the fun. Some of them are Manipuri Raas purnima (Full moon) mela at kamalgonj,Mouluvibazar normally on the fullmoon of the bangla month of kartik, Lalon Utshob in Cheuria, Kushtia. This lalon mela happens twice in a year, one in 1st kartik normally 15 or 16 of october and the second one happen in dol purnima, another full moon night.

There are so many highly interesting folk fair happens in Bangladesh every year. We wish that many people from abroad will join those fairs and festives to make it more interesting.

For any info pls mail me on shawkatiqbal@yahoo.com
