India to Tibet/China
I apologise if this has already been answered. I've tried looking but am still in a state of confusion, so hopefully someone can help me out.
I want to go from anywhere in india to tibet. I'm travelling arond india for 6 months, so it doesnt make a difference to me where i leave from, but I guess the more north I am the cheaper it may be (based on the fact that there will be less distance to cover. )Ideally I would like to start off in Tibet and then travel around china ending up going to Pakistan via the Korakoram Highway, but if its easier to get a flight to somewhere else in china and then go to Tibet, then I'm open to that as well. My questions are: 1. How do I get a visa for china in india and from which city? 2. How do I get a permit to Tibet? 3. Are there any direct flights to china or tibet from india? 4. Which is the best place in india to get the flight out from? 5. Any other information that might be of help to me. I've spent the past 2 days looking at every single china and india guidebook I can find in every single bookshop in the city and other then fried braincells I have not achieved much. So any advice would be appriciated. Thanks guys Umbreen

I think the simplest solution would be to go from India to Kathmandu (there are regular flights from Delhi, for example) and then go from Kathmandu to Tibet, which you can do by air or by road. As far as I know, if you want to fly from India to China, the flights all go to places quite far from Tibet, like Beijing, or Shanghai or Guanhzhou, which would entail quite a bit of internal traveling in China to get to Tibet.
