India to Pakistan

I am a Canadian of Indian origin, thinking of going to Pakistan via train from Amristar. Does anyone have experience obtaining a Landing permit, as mentioned on LP's website. link Otherwise how easy is it to get a Pak visa in India? Also, is visiting Pak during Ramadan really that bad.

thanks,
cc

no more Pak visa on landing!

They were abolished after 9/11 (2001). You MUST get visa before coming to Pakistan. Last time I made my queries in March 2004, it would take 4 working days for the Pak Embassy in Delhi to give visa (to a non-Indian).

Get your visa before you go. Also (unless you hold an Indian passport) I would suggest you use the land crossing, unless you enjoy sitting on trains and faffing about at railway stations for up to 6/7 hours. Indian passport holders have to cross using the train.

Me and a friend went in April he took the train and I used the foot crossing. I was at my detination for 6/7pm and it took him till 2am the next day to reach the same place, as the railway route involves standing in large queues etc.

thanks

thank you so much for very useful information. Looks like we're going to MP instead, too much hassle to go Pak.

pity!!

shame that admin hassles put you off going to Pakistan! such an interesting country, esp for someone of an Indian origin... I am pretty sure that you can get a Pak visa in Canada very quickly (certainly quicker than in Delhi) - in London they now do them "while you wait" in less than an hour.
