Independent trekking in Bhutan?

Hi -- this is my first post in these forums and have already found tons of useful information to help plan my trip to Bhutan in December this year, so thanks to everyone for that.

However, I haven't been able to find any information about whether it is possible to trek independently in Bhutan (I have all the necessary gear and I'm a fairly experienced backpacker having spent 60+ nights in the outdoors). My main concern is whether the trails are well-marked and/or if maps of the trekking areas are easy to come by. I'm an Indian citizen, so I'm not required to go through a travel agent.

Moreover, if anyone has done the Nabji-Korphu or the Samtengang treks, I'd love to hear about your experiences. Thanks!
