How to get to Maldives from Kerala?

Hey! This is my first post ever to this site.. I must say that I really love this forum!! Well anyway, I'm going to Kerala for three months and I was wondering if there was a way to do a trip to Maldives? I'd hope to stay at Maldives for few days and then return to India.. Has anyone got any experience?? Ferries? Ships? Where to book etc..??

From Trivandrum there are several daily flights by Indian airlines and Air Sahara. The flight time is less than an hour.

I've never heard of any boat travel between India and the Maldives. Have read several questions on other forums querying boats from India to Sri Lanka - and as far as I'm aware there are none. I'm guessing flying will be your best option.

I took the Indian Airlines flight from Trivandrum to Male last year..It is under an hour, so even if a boat was an option, it wouldn't be worth it..The flight was only 100.00 U.S.

After we arrived in Male...we took a seaplane and flew to Veligandu Island Resort...The view from the plane was breathtaking and the island was gorgeous..We only stayed 3 nights, but it was a nice way to wind down after Kerala...I hope to go there again..

Yes you are right, Kerala is laid back..but we really over indulged and stayed up quite late most nights in Kerala, so needed a rest before we headed home!!

the price you quoted to fly, US$100, was that a return ticket,
also resort you stayed in, what was the price per night.

It was 100.00 one way...And the bungalow was 222.00 per night, but we upgraded when we got there so it was a little more..But it was totally laid back and beautiful sand..Really loved it..3 buffet meals a day were included..Our cabin was only a few feet from the ocean..

Indian airlines has a direct flight from Trivandum.

TracyB, I checked out the Air India Ticket fares round trip Trivandrum<<>>Male for 2012 January. It comes around 16,000 INR. I guess a year's gap has indeed made some differences. And.. I cant find any direct Indian Airlines flights to male from Tvm.
