I really don't know, but over Delhi might make sense (?). See http://www.seat61.com/Nepal.htm#Delh...by train & bus , page last updated last Sept. it says.

Hopefully others can fill in more recent or adequate details.

Delhi-Kathmandu: The night train (around 10 PM ) takes around sixteen hours (last time , read : was meant to .. ) , shared jeep/taxi to the border , buses waiting there , a long night ride to Ktm , esp. with the local bus blaring duets in Hindi & Nepali. Nothing wrong with romantic songs , but anything can get a bit tiring after the first eight hours.

Breaking off the journey is possible in Sonauli , Lumbini or Pokhara. Lumbini is fairly close , 28 klicks, but you will probably have to take a cab.

Jumping off in Pokhara means arriving in the middle of the night, probably not a great idea unless you know the place.
