| Holi in Kathmandu??? Is the holiday of Holi celebrated in Kathmandu? If so, to what extent? Thanks, Nick |

| Yes, although different ethnic peoples may not celebrate it on the same specific day. A nice description of the festival can be read here.

| Several sources report Holi as falling on March 22nd in the year 2008. The helpful link offered by Peak reports that the celebrations last a week long, that the color throwing that's so heavily associated with the festival doesn't take place until the last day, and, finally, that Holi is somehow celebrated a day later in Nepal. Does this mean that color throwing will occur in Kathmandu/Pokhara on 3/29? I've heard that the color throwing occurs on the second day. |

| I was in Kathmandu for Holi this year. It was on the same day as in India. The streets of Thamel were pretty much empty, except for gangs of young people with water and paint, and the odd brave cycle-rickshaw covered with polythene. It all stops in the afternoon though. Supposedly. |
