Help with Kolkata-Yangon (Myanmar)
Hi guys, I'm trying to figure out what's the best and cheapest way to get from india to myanmar... I believe it's cheapest to go from Kolkata to Yangon, but I'm open to any suggestions. So, I'd like to know what are the prices in these routes: delhi-yangon and kolkata-yangon, please and if anyone has flown these routes, it'd be of great help if they could share the experience. I'm definitely trying to avoid going to bangkok, cos Thailand needs to be reserved for a future trip...
Thanx a lot india travellers!!! |

You are right. There is only Indian Airlines flying this route at this moment, that too only on Mondays. It could be prone to cancellations for various reasons. Here is a typical itin. with IC randomly taken for dates in August.
Outbound ======== Calcutta, India to Yangon, Myanmar: 637 miles 1 hr 45 min Indian Airlines Flight IC727 on an Airbus A320 (jet) in coach class, (snack) Departs Calcutta, India (CCU) Mon, Aug 6 10:00a 1 hr 45 min Arrives Yangon, Myanmar (RGN) 12:45p Inbound ======= Yangon, Myanmar to Calcutta, India: 637 miles 1 hr 45 min Indian Airlines Flight IC728 on an Airbus A320 (jet) in coach class (snack) Departs Yangon, Myanmar (RGN) Mon, Aug 13 1:30p 1 hr 45 min Arrives Calcutta, India (CCU) 2:15p Fare: INR 20379 (W class) You may get a better deal with travel agents of Kolkata for the same dates. Other options are Thai Airways via Bangkok, Singapore Air via Singapore. Predictably they are expensive. |

kshastry, thanx a lot for that info... how long in advance do you recommend i should buy those tickets?? i know i won't be able in that sucky indianairlines web page so i'd have to find some reliable travel agent who accepts international credit cards (do u know any??). One question though, sorry for my ignorance, but, what do u mean with "W class"?
Again, thanx for your kind answer... |

For booking the tickets, if you are certain about your dates of travel, then earlier the better. You have not mentioned whether you want a one-way ticket or return ticket. To purchase return ticket, you must check your Indian visa type (Validity, no.of entries etc).
"W class" means nothing special. Its an economy class ticket with certain rules governing the validity of ticket. Usually on W class, one free change of date is permitted and its refundable. Deeply discounted tickets have many restrictions. Each airline has its own rules. Please visit a travel agent and I am sure he will have a better deal than the above. Most of them do accept international credit cards. Have you already got Myanmar visa? Are you eligible for Visa on arrival? |

Thanx again for your reply, the good thing is that i don't need an India visa, because i have a diplomatic passport and India just signed an agreement with my country, Ecuador, last month, which allows to ecuadorian diplomatic passport holders to travel to india without visa, so that's not an issue. I believe i'll get my myanmar visa in delhi on my first day of arrival, it'd be best to use the 1-day visa pickup service that offers myanmar embassy, and the main reason that i don't want to go to yangon via bangkok is that i'll have to get a thai visa (which takes 3 days to get) and that'll be a waste of time. I'll go to Thailand on a future trip. The Kolkata-Yangon indian airlines fare seems to be a little expensive, i hope to get better deals when i get to delhi, or should i buy from a travel agent during the next couple of months with my credit card? what do you think? I need a return fare and i got a pretty good idea of the dates of travel...
Thanx in advance |
