IMers !!

It's an old dream and we would like to make it true ..... Italy - India overland. Today is another very hot day in Firenze and work has been hard !! projects on India are needed to survive up to the next trip !!!

My husband and I have a Volkswagen T4, a camper. The dream could be a reality ...
Other friends with T4 campers would like to join us in this trip to India.

I have read the threads on the subjects but they are not very recent, many of them are for train\bus travellers.

Does anyone know about the "famous troubles" at the Pakistan border ?
Does anyone know about the money to pay for the car ?
Did some of you or your friends drive successfully to India ?

Itinerary: we are thinking the Turkey, Iran, Pakistan way but maybe some IMer has a different suggestion..
waiting for suggestions and direct experience ........

I'd say it mostly means you haven't been answered yet.

Patience, peace

It is just remotely possible no one who's looked at this has an answer for you, of course. Stranger things have happened. Maybe the right people haven't seen it. I know I don't have any answers.

On carnets and stuff, I guess your national automobile association would be a good place to start asking. Maybe your ministry of foreign affairs; or your visa services, or something.

I know for instance carnets de passage have been discussed here, so maybe you want to search around some more. I'm sure there must be info on it on the web, too (note the singular is carnet de passage; or simply carnet, in English). A decent travel agent might be able to advise you. Etc.

I was only joking !!!! thanks for your advices. I know that the subject will not have only one answer but it's very interesting to read about other experiences, so all will be welcome !!!!! news from offices .... yes, of course, but people telling their stories are a different source of knowledge.

Namaste

Hi, this is the only question of yours I can answer. 4 years ago I met many travelers driving from Europe to India. This includes a 65 year-old English woman on a motorbike, and a Dutch couple in a camper van who I met in Lahore, and then again in Goa 3 months later. So it is possible!

Thank you Shiver !!

I am keeping on with my research and yesterday I visited the link you send (Thanks again ...) slowly I am collecting news and stories.
The majority go by public transport, it seems easier or maybe the are the only ones reporting on their trips. For the moment I can't find any clear news on the fees to pay to cross the border by car, this seems a problem, particularly at the Pakistan -India border.

The Net is wide .... keep searching !!!
