From China to India
From China to India
Hey,
Has anyone travelled from China to India? We're planning on spending a few months in the Yunnan province and then heading for India around September - to probably end up in Kerala.
Would appreciate any info on flights/trains etc and would be good to hear anyones experiences with this too.
I have no idea how much flights are likely to cost or where to search for them?
Thanks in advance

Forget about trains, the land border is closed. Either fly from China or go trought Tibet,Nepal and into India or head south to Lao and Thailand and fly from Changmai or Bangkok to India. I would head south to Lao.

It may not be very helpful to you, but thats what I know.
There is a flight from Beijing to Delhi, Southern China Airlines and it is very , very nice. Planes and service at par with Singapore Airlines in my opinion.
Fly from Delhi to Kerala/Chennai.
And boy did I have fun in Beijing... searching for ChinaMike too now.

Thanks guys, I'll look into that.
Probably going to be around Kunming - wonder whether we could get a train to Myanmar, then fly to India?
Do you think it is best to wait until we're there to book flights? Every search I do seems to result in UK based sites that are probably quoting way over the odds to buy from here. Would it be cheaper to buy whilst there?
Anyone have any info on what to budget for in China? I've seen many threads suggesting anywhere between £5-£20 a day for India, any ideas for China?
Hey Indojingai, if you find 'ChinaMike,' let me know!
Thanks again

This is a long way round, but probably the cheapest.Train 5933 departs Kunming Bei daily at 16:00 and gets to Hekou at 08:15 the next morning.
On Fridays & Sundays part of the train (with an air-con 'soft-sleeper' carriage) is extended to Hanoi in Vietnam, this part of the train departs from Hekou (on Mondays & Saturdays) at 09:30 and gets to Hanoi at 20:10.
From Hanoi you can get trains to Ho Chi Min City, then with a couple of short bus journeys you can get trains to Bangkok, the airfares from Bangkok to India are normally cheap.
This reservation form should be useful, as part of it is in English.
For train info through Vietnam, Cambodia & Thailand, check out the following website.
The Man In Seat 61.
I have a Chinese rail timetable; although it is now a couple of years old, if you need any info, just ask.
