Clothing
Again thank you so much for your input.
Martinez, thanx for the tip, a lot of people have said the same. I totally respect this. Is it possible to pick up the correct clothing once there (or preferably on the way) or should I come prepared to cover head to toe and bring stuff from departure country? Also, what is considered correct clothing/covering for a woman? I guess jeans and t-shirt doesnt apply anymore as being "covered", lolol ![]() Thanx once again Kindest regards Emma |

Hiya, I just did pretty much the same thing, I started in the UK and it took me 6 weeks to get to the south of India overland, I dont have the time to read everyone elses comments but ill put my 2 cents in, basically europe is quick and easy to go thru, when your you get to turkey you can take the train from istanbul to tehran which takes 3 days i think amd leaves every wednesday or take the 40 hour bus that leaves everyday which was an experience i wudnt recommend, then Iran is very cheap and easy to travel thru just take the buses everyone will be happy to help, the quickest way which i went was tehran-esfahan-yazd-kerman-zahedan then a taxi to the border town and then your in pakistan from there you can get a VERY bumpy bus to quetta and a bus or train to lahore which is very close to india , id recommend getting the iranian visa in portugal but u cud pick it up in istanbul, which i did, if you do then dont let them make you wait a day for it!
i already had my pakistan visa from the UK and the Indian one is easy enough to get in Islamabad, which is about 6 hours away by bus north from Lahore and takes a week to get. As for itineries dont worry i planned all the way up to istanbul then after that i just went with the flow you can make it from istanbul to india in 2 weeks easily enough providing you have the indian visa. as for driving we did meet a few people doing it but i dont know if you heard about the belgium couple who we meet a few times that got kidnapped in south east iran which highlights the dangers of driving alone! saying that we met people in the tourist campsite in islamabad who had done it no problems, so its your decision! if you need any more advice im only a message away! and its definetly worth it!!!! |

Emma - if you haven't discovered it yet, seat61.com is a treasure trove of information. Scroll down to the "London to India Overland" bit for some very detailed suggestions and advice.
I've done some of the journey - from London to the Iranian border - and it's a joy. Of course, things get a little more difficult (and exciting) from there... |
