Favourite Countries (apart from India)

Ok, everyone on this site shares a common interest - India. But there are also a lot of experienced travellers out there - so what are your favourite destinations, apart from India, and why?

Hi Conor M.,

My favourite countries are:

Morocco
Turkey
Italy
Egypt
Greece
Syria
Nepal

To explain in few words why, is too difficult. Many, many different reasons, but apart of Nepal, all the other countries are in the Mediterranean Sea.

Hi,

See similar thread here

It's always easy to like the last destination you've been to, so I'll say Berlin for its atmosphere and history.

australia&new zealnd

my favorite country`s are australia and newzealand. (and india ofcourse)

because i`v been in nz one time for 3 months, my uncle was there with his sailing boat we traveld and saild around the country, later i was there again for 8 months i traveld a lot 2gether with a girl and we workd a bit, i know pretty much about australia too the countrys are a bit the same but nz has more hills and variating landscapes.

its just a paradise there all the waterfalls and walks you can make too much to doo, good diving too.

there are quit a lot spiritual people there.

South Korea, ofcourse! I'll also put in a plug for West Africa...particularly Burkina Faso. Not alot of tourists and a very rewarding destination.

Favs

Australia - East Coast

Vietnam

Australia - South East Coasst

Australia - Mid West

Australia - Perth Coast

The whole of Australia is - at the moment - my second choice - India being my first - but I think that I am being swayed after spending a few months of the last couple of years in Oz after 5 months in Goa - and a 5 couple of week visits before that.
India has been my "home" for 6 months since 92 but I think this year will be our last. In my heart I don't want it to be but in my head I know that Australia is where we are going to be.

The whole

Thumbs up no place like home

Favorite destination, eh? That's an easy one -- Canada.

Why? It is simply a beautiful, clean, peaceful country with a melange of cultures and friendly people. I love the Rocky mountains of Banff and Jasper, the clear lakes, the wildlife . . . the cosmopolitan centers Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver . . . the waterfalls (Niagra falls) . . . the shopping (West Edmonton Mall is the worlds' largest) . . .

In short, there is simply no place like home

Aside from the people, who are friendly and interesting everywhere, these are my favorites and the main reasons for each:

1. Italy: architecture, Roman ruins, opera, food

2. Brazil: the Amazon, the Pantanal, Foz do Iguacu, Minas Gerais (and Aleijadinho), food

3. Japan: the countryside and traditional buildings, food

4. Russia: architecture, food

5. South Africa: natural beauty, Kruger Nat'l Park (where vehicles are not permitted off road, or to crowd the animals), Victoria Falls (across the border in Zimbabwe)

6. France: architecture, Roman ruins, food

7. Peru: natural beauty, Inca ruins

8. Egypt: ancient ruins (including the pyramids and sphinx at dawn)

9. Austria: music, natural beauty, food

10. Kenya: natural beauty, wildlife (despite allowing all-terrain vehicles to crowd the animals)
