Thank you for the note
I have a 70L backpack, I can pack it lightly with only necessary articles. I will take flight from DEL-KTM-DEL, it costs INR 12,000 and flight from KTM-LUK-KTM, it costs INR 5,000 In this way I can complete the trek part in 13 days. What would be the daily costs there for lodging and food? Praveen |

BTW: I carried a sleeping bag all 28 days ..not used even a single day ...everywhere i got aroom with mattress and good blanket!. Down jacket you need at Lobuche and beyond. The Food/Stay costs are a bit steep as you go higher ... I would say your average would be NR 900 per day ... i.e. starting at say NR 600 per day at Lukla ... and rising to NR 1400 at Gorakshep. Note INR 1 = 1.6 NR). the room costs only NR 150-250 per day the food costs quite some more. So a 13-days trek should be say NR 13000 .... say max NR 15000 for food & stay. The permit for Indians is only NR 100 to be bought at Monjo (beyond phakding). - KS |

Yes, I remember seeing a News Item of a foreigner who did EBC on a mountain bike (I mean, bicycle) and that article was laminated and posted on the staircase walls of Hotel Garuda in Kathmandu. The article quoted the owner saying: he could use his mountain bicycle about 75% of the time and rest 25% he had to carry it on his head!
I don't remember the guy's name & details, now. But, I am sure if you Google it, with appropriate keywords, you will have the answers in seconds. Also, when I was waiting at the baggage belt, on return to Kathmandu from Lukla, at the Domestic Terminal ... I saw two ATB bicycles on the Belt Two europeans walked up, "fixed" the front wheel in a jiffy .... and rode off, before I could gather my wits to ask them where in the Himalayas that had gone on these bikes? .... OK ... finally, I have completed labelling all those 500+ pictures of my Jiri to EBC-Kalapathar Trek in Nepal, in Flickr.
If you are "Crazy_Enough" to want to see all those pictures go to: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ks_bluechip/sets/ If "Not_That_Crazy" you might want to just see my best 10 pictures at: http://kothanda.srinivasan.googlepag...verestpictures However, please note, I have linked LARGE size pictures here .. so the page will load a bit slowly. The EBC update on my Blog page will take some more time to get done. - KS |

I liked 4th, 6th & 7th more among the ten pics. However, Nuptse is always better looking than the the Mt. Everest and you captured it so well. So i vote for the number 7th.
When all the pics are good its difficult to sort out best ten. You must have had real hardtime doing so. Thanks for sharing these pics. |

Hi Sadanand, Uttam, Praveen .... thanks for your +ive feedback. Yes, it was pretty tough for me to choose best 10 (out of 500!) ... Only after deciding to drop the entire Jiri-Namche-Gorakshep sectors and have only "Everest-Area" as the canvas .... could I select shortlist these ten. ---- KS

My choice of the best 10 pictures in this set is as under : IMG 2307, 2325, 2328, 2336, 2361, 2390, 2414, 2425, 2462 and 2530. I have randomly gone through your other sets of pictures. My impression about the entire trek to EBC is : 1. Trek from Jiri to Namche Bazar : journey is more important than destination .2. Trek from Namche to EBC/Kala Pathar : Destination is more important than the journey 3. In my view (based on the pictures) the trek from Jiri to Namche Bazar has got almost all the ingredients that constitute a good trek ..... greenery, valleys, forests, river/streams, waterfalls, flora, villages, religious places. And the bonus point is the good tea houses all along the trek . Sadanand |

HI Sadanand ...
Congrats you are one of a rare "Crazy" fan to have seen all those pictures! ... Your observations are perfectly correct and really insightful ... I mean your comment about "Journey in Jiri trek and Destination in EBC-Kalapathar trek" ... In the Jiri Trek many small-small pluses contribute and add up to an aggregrate great feeling of a Great Trek ... whereas in the Namche Kalpathar Trek, the sight of awesome Everest/Nuptse is one huge overwhelming plus (even compensating for some negatives of the trek like crowds, yaks and Touristy Teahouses etc.). Thanks for helping me identify the 10 best in Jiri trek ... it is more helpful to get Viewer's 10 best list .... than trying to do on own (coloured by other personal factors seen in trek than pure picture appeal)... I am still to "see" the 10 you have identified.... hope one 1 or 2 other "crazy" guys will identify their 10 best in that trek ... so I can start from that base and put up a "Best of Jiri by Fans" selection on my Blog page. - KS Quote:

Best pic
In the Jiri-Namche folder, without a doubt - IMG2397. Chorten/stupa, complete with Maoist symbols! Only in Nepal!
Though I think the descriptions of 2397 and 2398 got switched. Please check. A comment on the traffic into Namche - scary! I prefer Connaught Place/ITO at peak hours any day. Or even better, the higher reaches of Pithoragarh or Chamoli districts. You are looking slimmer than your July HKD/Yamunotri pics, sir. Am I right, or is it just the light playing tricks? |
