my EBC trek is nearing

Hi, all my wellwishers ...

20th Sept is fast approaching! ... that's when I leave for Kathmandu for my EBC trek, I hope to start from Jiri on 22nd Sept. All lights are GREEN and Systems GO, as of now ..... I hope to follow the schedule & route already put up by me, in an earlier post here in this thread.

Any last minute Advise (solicited!) and tips (welcome)?

If I get to any reasonably priced cyber-cafes on the trek route will post some updates here in this thread.

- KS

KS,
Best wishes for the successful completion of your EBC trek.
I am sure you will keep us posted the 'progress report' of your trek, to the extent possible as hitherto.

We did the Gokyo trek in 2002 when I was 52 and my husband 67. We had trained for it and although the pull up to Namche was difficult (mostly because of the altitude break) the rest was superb. We gave ourselves about 16 days to do the whole trip - flew from Kathmandu to Lukla. We carried altitude sickness medication and both felt we needed it at Namche, but not after. We gave ourselves 2 days in Namche. There's a nice side trek from there at the same altitude.

You can buy good quality second hand trekking gear from the shops in Thamel. Big expeditions get rid of their gear there, and the shops will buy it back afterwards.

Good luck - am feeling slightly envious!

Praveen & Capt .... Thanks.

Just finalised Porter-Guide & Other arrangements... with Mr Puru Timalsena, of Nepal Montanas Treks & expeditions in Thamel, Kathmandu Nepal

For benefit of others interested giving following details of Overall Exp budget.

ALL figs in Nepalee Rupees (1 INR = 1.6 NR):

Asuming 25 days treks from Jiri to EBC, Kalapathar & Gokyo

1) Porter + Sleeping bag + Down Jacket = NR 700 per day = NR 17500
2) Return airfare Lukla to KTM (for Self and Porter) Rs 7000

3) Self Exps stay + food etc. NR 900 per day = NR 22500

4) Permit for India trekker = NR 200

5) misc exps = NR 2800

Total Trek portion = NR 50000 (aprox INR 31250)

Kathmandu stay 4 days @NR 500 = NR 2000
Kathmandu food Exps 5 @NR 400 days = NR 2000
Say other Misc NR 1000

Grand Total == NR 55000 (approx INR 35000)

Thus it works out approx INR 1000/- per day (not counting to and Mumbai to Kathmandu Exps)

KS,
Very good information .

Just a thought. It would appear that in terms of cost, one EBC trek is equivalent to 2 or may be 3 Uttarakhand treks.

Enjoy EBC trek .
