May be.....lets see....A railway line to Manipur (Imphal) is already on the cards through the Trans-Asian Railway network (see: Trans-Asian Railway Project – linking Indian Railways to the World) but that will be through the North-East Frontier Railway (Gwuahati) side. Lets see if they can link West Bengal with Tripura from this was as well.

Train to Dhaka is not new. It has a chequered history. Don't know when it was last suspended. I would love to see a direct connection from Kolkata to Agartala. The railway come stone's thrown distance from Tripura border. Ofcourse, India has to build lines on their side and pay "royalty" to Bangladesh to provide safe passsge. I am sure something can be worked out. Already bus(es) run from Agartala to Kolkata and planes flying over BD.

During the 1971 war.....

I went the the Railway Museum at Howrah Railway Station last week and saw an broad-gauge Steam Locomotive, painted green and black with "East Pakistan Railway" written on it in English and Urdu. The curetor told me that this was the locomotive which brought the last train to Kolkata (Sealdah) - the Eastbengal Mail from Jessore, but cannot go back as train services were stopped that night itself with the outbreak of war with Pakistan in 1971.....in the course of which the free nation of Bangladesh was born. It made me very nostalgic with the engine. I touched and took photographs of it.

Now decided as under:

- The Train will run only 2 days a week (saturday + Sunday), not daily.
- Train will be from Chitpur-Dhaka Cantonment station (In Dhaka)
-Beside of Air con, there are also non air con rooms.

Thanks Saiful.....I will visit Dhaka by this train in the future.

The two pics of Moitree Express (Link:http://www.indiamike.com/photopost/s...searchid=82423 )taken by me featured in the coverage of this train in the May 2008 issue of "Bhraman" - Bengali travel magazine.
