Hi,

I'm planning to visit Nepal in the last week of Dec, I've heard a lot about scenic beauty over there and read a lot from threads in this forum. Although I still couldn't be assured for couple of things, please help me out by answering them..

1. Is it safe to visit Nepal, As I'll be visiting there with family (wife and kid).

2. What are the best places to visit there, Someone told me to take a train to gorakhpur first and board a bus then????

3. My wife doesn't have a passport, just a driving license for ID proof, what all documents are required if any..

4. From where can I get Nepali Rupees, I read from forums that indian rupees are not accepted at many places in nepal.

5. I'm on budget, so please suggest me some good accommodation there.

Please also share any relevent info that may help me.

Thanks..

Hi Mr Jindal
1. Nepal is a safe place and you can go there and enjoy.
2. You have to go to Sunauli border from Gorakhpur to take a bus for Kathmandu, stay at Marwari Sewa Samity, New Road , Kathmandu or any other hotel near New Road and Sundhara .
3. There is no need of passport, a voter I Card or your Driving license is sufficient.
4. When you go by plane, I card is a must.
5. You can easily spend Indian Rs in Nepal, Never take 500 and 1000 Rs note to Nepal, that is banned there, they will arrest you if found carrying 1000 and 500 Rs note.
6. Nepal is very beautiful place, places to see in Kathmandu-

Pashupatinath Temple, Guheshwari Temple, Swayambhu Temple, Boudhanath Temple, Dakshinkali Temple, Budhaneelkantha, Bhaktapur, Hanumandhoka etc, Kathmandu is called city of temples.
You can also go to Pokahara , famous for excellent mountain views. Pokhara is costlier in comparison to Kathmandu.

Never purchase anything in Nepal( now everything is aavailable in Delhi at cheaper rates), Nepal custom people will harass you and will ask for bribe.

The best way to reach Kathmandu from Delhi is to go by plane, try to get a good package conducted by travel agencies, by plane you will reach Kathmandu in one and half hour, by train 24 hours to Gorakhpur and further 10 hours by bus is very tiresome journey.

Have a good journey, my best wishes.
Thanks
alok
