Crossing at Banbassa-Mahendrenagar

I am planning a trip from Pokhara and want to make my way to Himachal, so crossing at Banbassa seems like the logical choice.

Has anyone crossed the border here? I have heard some interesting stories. It much more difficult than crossing at say, Sanouli?

Also, from Banbassa, how to you get to other cool spots in Uttarkhand, with the eventual goal of making it to Himachal?

I'm just wondering if you did the trip and what your expierence was like? I'm planning on crossing the border there in a couple of weeks time (coming from Hardiwar and then heading east through the terai region) - any info on the security situation, how easy it is to get the visa, where is good to stay etc. would be much appreciated.
