Yah, saw that today in newspaper. I just opened the forum to post abt that and see it is already here . You should protest much more . What a shame, the only purpose is to bring the Olympic Fire. Now business mans will harvest in that area to build temporary hotels or restaurants at the season time. What are these people doing to the ecology ?? One day nature will return the ultimate and that day anybody will have no power to protest against her .

This will be an worthless and idiotic action to build road into such pristine region of the Himalayas. We have already destroyed much beauty and must not do more. The person who planned this must be kept on top of Everest for 1 hour without clothes, then he will understand.........that will be the super capital punishment for such dumb plans.

"Announcing the project, the Chinese official Xinhua News Agency , hoped the new highway would become a major route for tourists and mountaineers."

What a level of callousness..............now common tourists to Everest Base Camp...........more burning fuel from vehicles, more callous and joker-like tourist activities, more overall pollution, more construction, ..........and finally.......more and more destruction ..........

I somehow don't think a road to Everest is a good idea, but a road to Agra was needed before the Taj Mahal could be built.

The road may help people trying to set the following records: -

The first limbless person to climb Everest.
The first baby to be born at the top of Everest.
The first group of morris dancers to climb Everest.
The first man to climb everest in a diving suit.
The first suicide bomber to 'have a blast' at the top of Everest.

Xinhua said "construction, which would start next week, would take about four months. The new highway would become a major route for tourists and mountaineers."

May be one day a marathon race will commence up to the Base Camp .

The surprising (not sure. Is really surprising??) fact is Indian Govt. is not protesting against it. Don't know what Nepal Govt. is doing.

If the road destroys by a massive landslide or avalanche or anything, I'll be the happiest man (from my point of view) in the world .

the first limbless person didnt require a road to climb the everest.....he did it last yr (Mark Inglis)
tho he was embroiled in a controversy out there cuz he didnt help a dying climber while coming down.......Discovery was showing the series till last weekend for last yr climb

If you watch program on Discovery - Everest - Beyond the limit, you will know, that the first leg less person to have reached the summit of Everest successfully was Mark Inglis.

This record is already set.

There are thousands of things human have already done, it only adds one to the list. Chinese are just showing off there technical prowess and hiding few insignificant points like last week some 4 thousand slaves were freed there from a shoe factory etc.
