Bhutan info required
We are a group of five persons planning to visit Bhutan during September09.
This is the proposed itenry 19/9: NJP (Siliguri) to Phuntsholing (which one is more better, NJP to Phuntsholing by bus or take train to Hasimara and then a car to Phuntsholing/Jaigaon?) 20/9: Phuntsholing to Paro via Ha valley (is it a good idea?) 21/9: Paro to Thimpu 22/9: Local sightseeing in Thimpu 23/9: Thimpu to Punakha (night at Punakha) 24/9: Back to Thimpu 25/9: Return to PhuntSholing 26/9: Phuntsholing to NJP Station for Kolkata Here I need some help and suggestion. a) Is there any place besides Phuntsholing from where we can obtain the entry permit to Paro-Thimpu. As we are arriving Phuntsholin on Saturday, how long the permit office remains open? b) Is it possible to visit Punakha and Wangdue making Thimpu as base or better to stay at Punakha overnight? What is the average budgeted cost of hotels at Punakha? c)What is the car cost in Bhutan? Can anyone give me any transport operator's name and number in Phuntsholing? d) Any other places to visit over there. e) Any do's and dont's.. All your helps appriciated Thanks !! ![]() |

Find out the thread "Bhutan - The last Sangri-La" by Natasha Chandra Acharya in Indiamike.. I think it is also in the articles section. It is one of the best written and related info on Bhutan.

Hi Himangshu, I have moved your post to a more appropriate forum.
The article that Bhaswaran is referring to is this one: http://www.indiamike.com/india-artic...st-shangri-la/

Thank You both for help. I went through the article and is really helpful. Still, I have few queries which the referred article did not cater to. Those are:
1) Is Saturday a holiday,half-day or full working day in Bhutan. Any idea on the max.cut-off time to reach the permit office? 2) Anyone has any first hand information on Punakha,Wangdue and Ha valley. Can they be covered within the stipulated timeframe (19- 26 Sept) |

I am sure you have to wait at least for a day to get the permit. There are accomodations in PhuntSholing. Pricerange for a doublebed starts from Rs. 250-300. Avoid smoking.
