Hi guys

I know there have been lots of threads about crossing by motorbike into Nepal, but it never hurts to get the most up to date info! I will riding from Bhubaneswar up to Nepal and I was wondering if anyone knew of a good place to cross the border in Bihar which is where I'll end up, I think my route will take me to Patna and from there i will head to the border. Lots of folks seem to recommend crossing at Mahendranagar but that is too far west for me to get to. I know there are also a couple of places around the darjeeling area to cross but again that's too far east. I'm on limited time and I just need to get to Kathmandu, any recommendations are appreciated. The bike is mine, in my name, so I should have no problems with the paper work but is there anything else I might have a problem with crossing by bike at the border and does anybody know what the situation is with this daily road tax?

This is from a Nepal website:
There are three main crossing points: Sunauli-Bhairawa, Birganj-Raxaul and Kakarbhitta-Silguri. The Sunauli border crossing is the best one from Varanasi, the Birgunj crossing is the easiest from Calcutta; and Kakarbhitta is the best crossing from Darjeeling
I think Birganj-Raxaul would work best for you. Don't know about paperwork for your vehicle.

Yes Birganj-Raxaul is the one people around Muzaffarpur/Patna use. I think Kakarbhitta is a bit closer to Kolkata (but not convenient, if the ultimate destination is Kathmandu).

Hi
There are two main entry points in Bihar
1. Raxaul ( India)- Birgunj ( Nepal) Distance 5 Kms
2. Jogbani( India)- Biratnagar (Nepal)

Raxaul border is suitable for you, as you will arrive from Bhubaneshwar to Raxaul via Jamshedpur- Ranchi- Hazaribagh- Barhi- Kodarma- Rajauli- Nawada- Biharsharif- Bakhtiarpur ( Turn Left)- Fatuha- Patna- Muzaffarpur- Motihari- Sugauli- Raxaul.

Thanks
Alok

If you have to stay overnight, I recommend staying in Raxaul; Birganj was noisy with drunken Nepalis.
