Hi - I've just got back from Bangladesh an hour ago - spent 3 weeks there. I'll post a full report in the next few days, but briefy YES its definitely worth going - I had a great time - people friendly - good transport - variety of things to see - country EVEN CHEAPER than India - see photos on my blog, and buy yourself a guidebook.

@mahmut:
I will be in Calcutta in August and I was considering to go to bangladesh, too. Is it possible to go with the bus from calcutta to dhaka (I mean, will the roads be ok because of the monsoon)? Are there cheap flights from Dhaka to Bangkok? If yes, I would love to visit your country.

Hi RedSwordfish,

Thank you also to show interest to visit Bangladesh. Yes, the bus service betweel Calutta-Dhaka are available all time of the year. It takes around 10 hours. The journey is very comfortable & the fare is only Tk. 600.00 (USD 10) one way. From Karunamoi International Bus terminal of Calcutta 2 Buses start every morning (7.00 am & 7.30 am) except Sunday.

From Dhaka to Bangkok, there are some cheapest air packages. I think you will be able to get return ticket of Dhaka-Bangkok only for USD 250.

Otehr hand, if you need any more information, plese feel free to ask me.

I needn't add much to Tim's excellent blogs on Bangladesh (Great job Tim!),

But here're a few pictures worth looking at _besides_ ugly & tall buildings pitched twenty stories (all too common in Dhaka these days)...

bangladesh is a really interessting country.
and maybe the big cities (for example dhaka and chittagong) are no problem for solo women travellers.
but u have also to see: bangladesh is muslim country.
and maybe u can have some problems at smaller places in the country.

All welcome to Bangladesh. Yes, some people rush around foreign tourists. But they are not harmful. It is the culture of Bangladeshies to ask something, to a visitor or to help to a new comer. So, never mind.
