Are Pakistani women allowed to leave Pakistan without permission?
This isn't the right forum but I'll give it a try.
Are Pakistani women allowed to leave the country without permission from their husband or father? Last edited by machadinha : Mar 12th, 2008 at 20:32. Reason: adjusted title |

Definitely not the right forum. Where would be right depend on why you ask, I guess? Maybe the visa forum. But I'll move it to crossing the Border for now.
By the country, do you mean their country? Pakistan? We need a clearer thread title, too. More info please.

Sorry. Very little info given!
By country I mean the country Pakistan, yes. Are Pakistani women allowed to leave Pakistan without permission? For instance, women in Iran and Saudi Arabia aren't allowed to do so. |

Hmm, good Q, but sharia law doesn't apply in Pakistan, so i'd say no, they don't need permission. Their civil law is basically the same as ours.

Not that the movie Veer-Zaara was in any way realistic, but after seeing that, I'd guess that if this is the case, it's not very well publicized.
(said film being about a Pakistani girl who hops across the border without her parents' permission, including a scene where she calls her mother from Wagah, Amritsar, or somesuch and is basically like "Oh, ummm, so when I said I was stepping out for a nimbu pani, I kind of meant in India...") |

My guess would be no. As mentioned above, Pakistan is not governed 100% by the Sharia (although some would rather it was). So legally, no. But I would also guess that the vast majority of Pakistani women would seek their father/husbands permission anyway.
In 7 weeks in Pakistan, I didn't see a single Pakistani woman travelling unaccompanied by a male. |
