Andaman Islands?
This is my first post so I hope that im doing it correctly, if not please be patient
Anyway, Im going to be in India in July and was wondering if it would be possible to go to the Andaman Islands...I'm landing in Kolkata and from the research i've done there are boats to the islands, however the most recent ship schedules I found are dated 2005! Does anyone have any info about getting to the Andaman Islands by boat from Kolkata? Any recommendations or advice? And is it worthed going in July or is it impossible/ very dangerous due to monsoon. I wouldnt mind spending 2 days squashed in a corner in a ships cabin to get to the islands so I'll consider all options. Thanks |

Welcome to IndiaMike. You've posted this in the Crossing the Border forum, however the Andamans are very much Indian territory and have their own (sub-) forum here: Andaman & Nicobar Islands, so you'll likely find some answers already there. (To become acquainted with the site's forum structure, try the "forums" button on top left of any page, which will lead you here: http://www.indiamike.com/india/ .)
Can't help you on any specifics, sorry. Boat timings get asked about a lot, and seem to be hard to find, so I gave up looking for them. Again though, you'll likely find info there. On the climate, try this whole thread: India climate chart .

Nothing to whoops about; just hoping to point you in the right direction
![]() ps That isn't a call to multi-post your questions though, which isn't allowed as per this site's Forum Rules, found at bottom of each page. Can only drive everyone including yourself up the wall. Try to pinpoint your questions & find the best spot to post them in, and keep your related questions together in one thread. Try also this handy introduction to IM, should be readily visible to any visitor before signing up: A Beginner's Guide to IndiaMike.com. I am again not tapping you on the fingers btw; just becoming a little acquainted with the site may provide you with the better experience. |

It certainly is, you don't wanna know all the lines I crossed at first
![]() Welcome to IM again; be sure to ask around (there are very few questions deemed too silly here -- they may well spiral off into unthought-of dimensions though!), & to let us know how you fared upon return! |

I don't think the ships operate during the monsoon.

You've posted in 5 different threads, this really is unfair.
Can you imagine the poor sod who comes to indiamike and searches for the same info, you could get all the answers to your questions in one post, but chances are the first 4 threads a new member checks are the ones without the replies, then the member will give up on indiamike thinking nobody knows the answers. Quote:
I've not been to the Andamans, but I did do some research on them (That's why I don't think the ships run during the Monsoon), but one thing about the Andamans, you have to have a relaxed approach to travel between the Islands, it seems that on some days you can't get a boat to some of the Islands, and even when you can, it's a slow way to travel. If the boats do operate during the Monsoon, you should just about have enough time to get to Port Blair, find the boat to Havalock Island (is there a direct boat from PB to H.), get off the boat at Havalock, dip your toes in the water, then quickly get the boat back to Port Blair. |

You're right steven ber sorry for posting in several threads, I'm new to this forum and didn't realise I would get so many replies so soon. I've never found a more efficient travel blog. Was getting carried away and excited about the Andaman Islands and wanted answers to carry on my research.
It doesn't seem worthed going to the islands in monsoon season for just a couple of days, it will have to be another time when i'll have more free time on my hands. You've all been very helpful so thanks |
