american wants to get visa to pakistan while in delhi
I'm an American with one of those 10-year tourist visas to India. My upcoming trip to India is booked to last over 8 months, and I might want to extend it even longer. Regardless, I'll need to cross the border before I've been in India for 6 months, as per the rules of my visa. So can I get a visa to Pakistan while in Delhi (or any other Indian city if need be or it is easier than Delhi)? Or would I have to obtain it in the US? Has anyone done this recently? I tried searching this site and didn't find anyone relaying a similar experience, but maybe I missed it.

Exit out of India to return.
Chad,
I am sure you can get a Pakistan visa in India but you should check with the Pakistan Embassy. You could also go to Sri Lanka a much more peaceful place even though there is a war but that is mostly in the north an east. People are friendly country is green and lush - it cost about 100 to 120 USD ticket from Chennai to Colombo and back. Visa on entry for one month - cost is built into airline ticket so its sort of free. Or you could go to Nepal. But of course Pakistan is the closest and cheapest if you are in the north. Good Luck |

To extend your visa it is much better to go to nepal rather than Pakistan. And Nepal issues the visa at the border so you get it when you need it ---Not before

If I were you, I'd go to Nepal, Sri Lanka, or even Bangladesh before Pakistan. Pak visas cost US citizens a bundle I've heard, and they take at least 8 days to process in Delhi, and that's only after you've got a letter of introduction from your own embassy.
Save yourself some hassle, and go to Kathmandu, unless of course you want to see a bit of Pakistan (which I'd highly recommend). |

Thanks for all the responses so far. I do understand it would be much easier to head to Nepal or Sri Lanka, etc.. but I'm starting to get my heart set on Pakistan. So many good vibes I'm getting about it from Conor M's "pakistan tips / 7 weeks in Pakistan" thread, as well as other threads. Yes, I read on one website that the visa cost u.ss citizens in the range of $120USD .. can anyone confirm paying this much recently? Well, I paid $150USD for the 10 year India visa. And for the chance to go to Pakistan, I think the money is not really the big issue. I think it is something I'll remember the rest of my life. I'll let you know what happens here on this thread if and once I get it all worked out and hopefully go.

I'm with you on wanting to go to Pakistan Chad - I'm thinking about doing the same thing at the end of my 8 month trip in India. The Karakorum's just seem so spectacular. And all the greenery. If you're not too concerned about the visa hassle, I say go for it. Being that I'm probably going to be taking that road before you do, I'll be sure to post the details of my experience. When is it that you leave again - it's too bad we couldn't travel together. Best of luck.

Ah so you're leaving soon. Well, I originally thought about October of this year too, but it just didn't seem right to leave India so soon after arriving, especially if I could just wait until spring. I was thinking about crossing over to Pakistan around April sometime - and taking the Karakorum highway over Khunjerab Pass into China sometime around the end of April/the beginning of May. Make sure to send me a private message at some point if you think you'd be interested in tagging along. It is a long way down the road, and a lot can change, but as for now....it's the plan. Best wishes! Be safe.
