A week in Nepal

Hi there

Having read some of the posts on this forum, I would really like to go to Pokhara after my Everest Base Camp trek to get some relaxation before heading back to Delhi. I must say that this will be August 08.

Now I have a couple of questions:

Is the weather in Nepal agreeable for travelling around August time?

If I was to remain for an extra week in Nepal, apart from spending a few days in Pokhara, what else could I see? I will have already spent a few days in Kathmandu.

Is the journey to Pokhara to and from Kathmandu safe? easy to arrange?

Thanks for the info

It's a few years since I was in Nepal, but I seem to remember that it is pretty easy to get a bus from Kathmandu to Pokhara. It takes a good few hours and is a hair raising but worthwhile journey. I did a trek to Annapurna basecamp from Pokhara - took us 8 days, but was just amazing. I spent a couple of days in Chitwan National Park before crossing the border back into India, you may want to look into this.

Hope that is helpful!

In Kathmandu walk east out of Thamel along Tridevi Marg, go past the temples and the stall selling hats. On your right you'll see a small lane (before you reach the main road intersection). Down this lane is the office of Greenline bus company. Book a day in advance, pay in US dollars and show up half an hour early at the same place on the day of your trip. Lunch is included.

I loved a little town called Palpa (also called Tansen)- totally untouristy with lovely mountain views. It's in between Pokhara and the border at Sunauli, but not on the bus route. Not worth a week though.

Do not go to Lumbini. Do not go to Lumbini. He he..I hated it.

It's august. Who knows what the wheater will do next year. If the monsoon is heavy, some parts of the kathamndu-Pokhara road could be washed away. They will know in kathmanadu about the road, you can ask there.
Chitwan, especially the lodges in Sauraha, coud be partly flooded in August as well.
I would suggest to make your trekking and after returning to Kathmandu, ask about conditions in the rest of Nepal.
