Rainfall in the mountains is intertwined with floods in plains, Lahore region, Indian Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar. Rivers rise, dams and barrages fill up, water is released from dams, embankments break, and fields and villages are inundated.

Yes, thanks, I understand that. That still doesn't tell me whether the reporter based in Lahore meant the expected continuing rainfall and cloudbursts were to take place in that precise region (of Lahore, then). I mostly added that as a comment so as not to contribute to any rumors that may be flying about (as in, Help! There's another cloudburst coming on!)

Locals complaining of no government or any other aid having reached them yet are reported to complain of diarrhea amongst their children, btw. As we all know floodings + diarrhea = not a good sign. In terms of infectious and possibly fatal diseases kicking in and spreading. (And access to clean water etc. typically gets equally washed away with such events, of course.)

There's currently talk of close to 14 million affected, more than 600,000 houses damaged, more than 1,600 dead. (Numbers rising as we speak, no doubt.)

I do not know about Pakistan, but see what 10 mm of rain can do in Bombay or Delhi.

The situation there is getting worse with number of affected people approaching 14 million. Officially the toll has crossed 1200 already and the flood, which started in the northwest, is threatening places as far south as Karachi.

Here is the report: More rains add to Pakistan's flood misery

Your apprehension, I am afraid, may not be very unjust.

Just quoting from the report I have already attached:

Quote:
At least 13.8 million people have been affected by the torrential rains and floods, said Maurizio Giuliano, information officer for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. Giuliano said of those affected, between 6 million and 7 million are in immediate need of food and other items.

"While not all may be in need of immediate humanitarian assistance, and the severity of their needs has not yet been fully assessed, this is a higher figure than those who were affected by the 2005 South Asia tsunami (three million), the 2005 South Asia earthquake (three million), or the 2010 Haiti earthquake (three million)," he said in a statement.

Though the number of fatalities was not comparable with either the tsunami or the earthquake, both of which had death tolls that exceeded 200,000, Pakistan's flooding "is a major disaster of enormous magnitude," said United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator John Holmes.

Mod note : Some bickering and offtopic posts have been deleted.
Please keep to facts and information about the disaster and not opinions about aid.

Latest - India has pledged 5 million dollars worth of aid, but Pakistan has to accept it (the relations between the two countries being what they are, it is a matter of ego). Pakistan accepted Indian aid at the time of Kashmir earthquake.

If Pakistan is ready to accept, India can provide more aid. Some 400 medical personnel are ready to be sent (again, if Pakistan accepts).
