12 MILLION hit by flood in Pakistan
12 MILLION hit by flood in Pakistan
It seems strange if we give no mention to a catastrophe that is happening in country not very far away from India.
12 million affected, 650,000 homes destroyed, over 1,600 dead.
BBC Coverage here.

Yeah, huge floods there , that happens quite often in bangladesh too. The major problem is that government support is minimal and delayed and the gap is filled by hardliners for whom this is a good time to brainwash people.
...It is more than 6000 Kms!

It is very very strange how my national identity, sense of location, and much else, gets confused sometimes. Let alone the relationship between brain and fingers. Typing this while listening to The News on BBC Radio 4 probably had something to do with it. Give me a few more years, and I might know where I am
. Thanks for pointing it out: I've edited it.

P word added to title. Thanks. Tragic.
I have been waiting for India to offer support/aid to Pakistan. I don't think it has done so.

I hope the Needy get the supplies/help/medical they need ASAP. I know if it were me, I wouldn't care if it came from the United States, India, Jamaat-ud-Dawa, ... or the Wild Men from Borneo.

Reason: gr.
Apparently, Pak Govt's slow & ineffective response has opened up avenues for terrorist groups like LeT & JuD who have mobilied their own 'people' to distribute aid and create a soft corner for themselves amongst the masses.
If India had offered to supply aid, I have a feeling it may have been declined, 'politely'.

Yeah, probably. But it should have done so anyway, I think.

Does anyone here remember cyclone "Bhola"? That was 1970 in (then) East Pakistan. Something on these lines did happen then.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1970_Bhola_cyclone

India has done so, I think a million dollars. It is not that India is blind to that. Of course, Pakistan will not allow Indians to go there to help. And if they go, the fundamentalist organizations which are helping (sic) people will kill them.

Nobody likes aid people with a book in hand. I do not know about Pakistan, but India certainly can do without help. Latest on the Dutch news (and I'm sure the news we can all follow, just felt like leaving this behind as an update):
-- Floodings have now spread from the northern Swat Valley, through the Punjab, all the way south to the Sindh, along the Indus River.
-- Said to be the worst floodings in 80 years.
-- Two major dams in the Indus, the Guddu and Sukkur Barrages, are feared to be close to bursting, owing to the water having risen above critical levels.
-- Food shortages expected this winter due to destroyed crops.
Etc. More heavy rainfall and cloudbursts expected over the coming days, said a reporter in the Lahore region; unclear if she meant that precise region.
There have meanwhile been severe floodings in the Chinese province of Gansu of course; initially reported over here to be on the Chinese side of Tibet. A look at a map however teaches it may be bordering a Tibetan region (the Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture), however would seem too far away to be directly related to the same weather system.
