Either way, I don't qualify. But at least he doesn't want a 'dynamic' person .

Hope you find a good person. It is so hard to see what's behind the talk when interviewing.

They generally do not qualify for many jobs outside there domain. employers have their own set of reasons, some common ones are :

1. No Domain Experience.
2. Lack of stability/commitment.
3. Attitude problem.

Arrow All-rounder

The description calls for a highly motivated and self driven all rounder. Not many have a legal experience. Troubleshooting and business development experience means "entrepreneurial skills". Architechtural and land aggregational experience comes with working for builders and land developers.

Now who would not want to hire such an extraordinary person?

The one's I know who fit the bill are all entrepreneurs who would never work "under" someone.

I wish you all the best in your recruitment effort, if you pay the right salary, you will get the right person.

A friendly alert... about who you may hire....

Many who seem to fit the bill may agree to accept the job even though "underpaid". They are only accepting it for nuisance value. Land and property deals attract the local mafia and these moles give the mafiosi info on pending deals and ultimately get a percentage of the extortion money which is many times more than a "salary", hence they accept a pittance for a salary.

Many of my acquaintances are builders and land developers. Its very hard to find someone who is honest in this profession. One cannot make money in Mumbai out of land if one is completely honest. Sad but true.

Even the infamous Urban Land Ceiling Act is not being repealed by the Maharashtra State Govt coz it'll kill the goose [mumbai] that lays the golden eggs for the politicians in power. Their very own partyman [PM Manmohan Singh] has given them a deadline of Dec 2007 or something... lets wait and watch.

Sorry for the seeming ramble, but you should be extremely cautious while hiring people who may be privy to land deals. Otherwise please ignore my rambling..

Because they're all commission oriented & my god they're obnoxious .... at least the ones that call my private line in Canada.

Wherever in the world it is done from, one needs a certain kind of cast-iron, cold, fighting spirit to do cold calling.

You have to simply not mind a million nos, a million people who think you are a jerk, a million people who just put the phone down on you.

Maybe these people are quite nice, when they're not working! Maybe they love kids and run homes for abandoned donkeys.

Or maybe they just quench the burn-out with alcohol and look forward to a short life.

Whatever... this kind of selling is just a fraction of call-centre work.

And the people who I know who do other kinds of call-centre work are not at all obnoxious!

No you're absolutely correct, the Call Center purchaser's of the calling lists which target only elderly clients with gold credit cards are not obnoxious at all ..... they're predatory!

Let's face it many call centers are legit ... but when you are driven solely by commission, quotas, & results then the scripts and those reading them have a tendency to take on an unnecessary urgency to the unsuspecting client.

I think you have a one-sided view ---the sales side--- of the call centre.

The service side too earns a great deal of criticism, but not of the kind you are talking about.

At fault here, ultimately, are the companies employing the centres, and briefing them on what to do and how to do it.

Yes telemarketers - call centers for "outbound sales" to be specific are the ones that jam my line and will call & call & call you. Inbound service centers are a totally different animal .... usually after purchase units, that may make you press 1000 different numbers while listening to elevator music ..... only to get an answering service where you must leave a detailed message and wait for them to get back to you on their own time.

Well Telemarketing is a very small percentage of the call center business, which again is small share of the total BPO pie...

As far as my experience goes, setting up a Outbound sales unit is the easiest and cheapest way to enter the industry, I am aware of the people who work with 5-25 agents on leased centers. So I don't expect them to be much organized and care for the customers...but yes there are some highly organized and customer centric entities as well.

As Nick said it all depends on the company who product they are selling, if the client is quality conscious then they will outsource to people with a quality record..

I agree completely, I don't let employees know very much unless I have to. I never give out the complete picture - it's dog eat dog.
