Master bedroom for rent in bungalow on ECR
Chennai
Looking for a sub-tenant for a master bedroom with attached bath, in a bungalow on East Coast Road (ECR). The house is located in about 20,000 sq ft of garden, on the seaside of ECR. Less than 100 yards from the beach. 385 USD / 260 EUR / 15000 INR per month. Sorry, non-negotiable. Deposit runs 6 months of rental but can be discussed and negotiated. Available January 2008, for a maximum period of one year. Renewable for another year if mutually agreeable. 3 month notice for termination. Utilities: If you plan on using an air-conditioner (as I do) then we share the electric charges thus: Your share = your previous residence, whatever you paid on electricity for single occupancy, and if you continue to use electricity in the same pattern. My share = the rest of it. Single occupant only, quiet, non-smoking, no pets... About the house: Traditional 'Tanjore' styled house with a slate roof and 2 courtyards open to the sky. Elegant, well-proportioned, well-built to look like a vintage. High ceilings, lots of stone to keep ambient temperature down. Shared living and dining space around a main big courtyard. The large master bedroom with it's bath is in a corridor off the courtyard. This is the room available. Another corridor off the courtyard leads to 2 smaller rooms around a second smaller courtyard with a common bath. I'm occupying these 2 rooms and bath, one room is my bedroom and the other is my study. There is a smaller (very low) back entrance which is not very convenient. It is like 2 houses built as one but we will be sharing a main door instead of using the back door which really is only an antique showpiece more than a regular entrance/exit. A better description would be 2 wings off the big courtyard. One wing with a huge room and the other with 2 smaller rooms. Partly furnished (actually next to nothing). Any furniture you plan on putting in the common space (living / dining / kitchen) will have to be shared. Feel free to use anything I put in the common space. Comes with a caretaker who lives with his wife and young son in a small cottage behind the house (well removed). Maid services and cook not included. I plan on having a maid / cook and you could use their services, if you like. One shared telephone line, no broadband internet on it. If you need internet, I suggest you get another telephone line and activate broadband on it. Charges for that are entirely yours. Cable TV needs activation, no television presently. I plan on getting a gardener to tend the garden. About the Master bedroom / bath: Queen size bed. East facing windows so you get superb morning light. Has a ceiling fan, and air-conditioner could be fitted. 2 stand-alone wooden wardrobes. Large bathroom, tiled, WC. (Will post approximate dimensions of the room and bath) You will be the first occupant since the house was built about 7-8 years back. About the surroundings: Nothing between the house and the beach except trees. Sea view hidden by the trees but the water is less than a minute's walk. 2 neighbouring houses. One diagonally opposite to the right of the house and one behind. The owner of the house diagonally opposite divides time between the USA and Chennai (6 months / 6 months). The house behind has the same owner, and sometimes holiday guests use the place. Totally fenced off. There are restaurants all along the ECR and a drive-in theatre. There is a supermarket on the ECR 5 minutes drive from the house. -- This would be perfect for someone working on a one or two year IT contract job on Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) as Buckingham Canal Road is only 5-10 minutes drive away, and that connects ECR to OMR. So no traffic chaos to get to and from work. Sunrises are spectacular and the beach is like a private beach. It is essential that you have some form of transport. I'm Indian, male, 30s. I speak - in order of fluency - English, Hindi, Tamil, Spanish. This is my home-office, so I will be around a lot. Single, I keep regular hours, clean, quiet, no pets. I'm renting the house from the landlord and sub-letting the master bedroom with his agreement. Feel free to email me: ecr_housemate@yahoo.com (Spam bots spam away, the email a/c is only until the room is rented out). Or PM me I'm not in Chennai right now and pictures of the house will take a while to organise. Prefer to send pictures by email, when available. I have been to the house before (not lived in it) and we will be the first full-time occupants since the house was built about 7-8 years back. Thank you
